DWVC Christmas Skiing
Sixteenth smallest country in the world, The Principality of Andorra is a land of mountainous landscapes and narrow valleys bordered by France and Spain. Andorra has been transformed in the past forty years from a poor European country with no real economy to a vibrant independent State, sought after by the wealthy for her tax haven status, and skiers for her ski runs that match the best in Europe for facilities and ski holidays infrastructure.
The country has upgraded facilities in recent years, and competes as a top ski destination in Europe. Several million Euros have recently been invested by the government to keep the country in line with other European winter destinations, and intended to make Andorra a natural choice for the ski and snowboard fraternity.
The Club Dorada el Tarter is located in the Canillo region. The resort surroundings allow numerous cultural visits: Roman church, typical small villages and great choice of sports and activities for the whole family: skiing, ice skating, horse riding, rafting, trekking, archery, and much more. A 20 minute drive will take you to Caldea, the largest health spa in Europe, which offers 6000 square metres of indoor and outdoor lagoons, saunas, a jacuzzi, pools, Indo-Roman baths, warm marble and also treatments to release stress, aches and pains.
The complex itself offers a fitness centre, solarium, sauna, bar and restaurant. All rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped with a full kitchen including washing machine (handy should you only want to half pack the suitcase on the way out and fill the leftover space with tax free goods for the trip home), an iron and ironing board, hair dryer, heating, television and hi-fi system.
Should you want to escape the UK and spend two weeks over Christmas and New Year (Monday 24th December until Monday 7th January) at the resort, as a member of Designer Way Vacation Club (DWVC), you can book a one bed apartment for £770. Going through Expedia the same accommodation for the same two weeks would cost £1,353.85. Being a member of DWVC would save you £583.83, the equivalent of between 40 and 45%!
Many people automatically think of France, Switzerland and the likes when looking for a winter skiing destination but with savings such as this, Andorra could be the ideal destination. An added benefit of going at this time of the year is that it would allow you to spend the money you have saved on the holiday on tax free Christmas presents for friends, family and who knows, even yourself.
