Dwarf Rabbits Life Expectancy

Dwarf rabbits are very cool creatures. They are very playful and affectionate animals. Netherlands is the most common dwarf rabbit breed. Dwarf rabbits are among the smallest animal pets one can have. They have their origins in Europe. They are very docile, and do not present major problems. One interesting thing that must be noted here is that these rabbits are capable of interbreeding with normal rabbits, hence they are not recognized as different species. Yet their size and appearance are distinctly small. They weigh about 3 lbs, which is quite astonishing.

Types

Netherland Dwarf Rabbits
They are the smallest rabbit breeds ever, but the most popular one as well. Although, dwarf rabbit breeds are very affectionate, Netherland rabbit breeds are the most temperamental of all. Yet because of their size, shape and appearance, they have a great appeal as pets. They have the smallest bodies and legs. They are so small that they can fit in a small glass. They live anything between 5 to 10 years.

Dwarf Hotot
They are not as small as Netherland, but are no less cuter. Hotot rabbits have very dark eyes with strikingly white furs. Dwarf hotots are very similar to Netherland, but they are much more docile. They like people and can be trained very easily. Although most of the dwarf hotots have white furs, they can have chocolate-colored and black-colored furs as well.

Their life expectancy is similar to that of a normal life of a rabbit, it is about 7 to 10 years. In rare cases, life span of dwarf rabbit can be up to 13 years also. In the entire life span, they are marred of the common problems that all rabbits face. Flies, lice and overgrown teeth, are a few problems. But taking care of rabbits shouldn't be a big problem.

Care

Do not be fooled by the small size of these creatures. They are anything but lazy. They require continuous exercise. And as all rabbits like to barrow. You have to think of some way to let them barrow. Another idea to keep these furry little creatures amused is to let them play in doll houses. They may wreck havoc in that house, but it'll be fun.

Feeding dwarf rabbits is not a big problem. They can eat any green leafy vegetable along with some fruits every now and then. Make sure to give fresh supply of hey to them. This is their staple food. They have a tendency to dehydrate a lot. So make sure that the bottle feeder is not empty at all times. It should always have fresh water in it.

But when you fall in love with these rabbits, it very difficult to even think about their life span. I really hope that your dwarf rabbit has fun, healthy and happy life. Good pet care is the only way in which you can increase the life expectancy of the dwarf rabbit.
