Step 1: Collect figs that have ripened and fallen to the ground. Pick these ripe figs and take them home.

Step 2: Wash them thoroughly under tap water and dry them well.

Step 3: Take each fig and cut them into half.

Step 4: Place the sliced fig halves on a wooden racks, cooling racks or dehydrator racks and place them under the sun, at a spot where they will receive direct sunlight.

Step 5: Cover these figs with a cloth to keep insects from devouring your precious fruit.

Step 6: Allow the figs to stay out in the sun during the day. However, at night don't forget to bring them in because dew can spoil them. Moreover, don't forget to place them out once again next morning.

Step 7: Figs will take about 2 days to dry. You can discern, if they have dried by their texture. Their outer covering will be leathery, but will bend easily in your fingers. The inner portion of the fig will feel soft, but will be devoid of juice. Your dried figs are ready!

Step 8: The best time to dry figs would be in the summers, when the days are warm, with some breeze. Once the figs have dried, it's time to properly store them because improper storage can ruin all your efforts. Place them in storage bags and then store them in the refrigerator or in the freezer.
