Dresses to Wear With Leggings

To those of you who are apprehensive about wearing dresses with leggings, it's now time to give up those apprehensions and shed your inhibitions. Instead, get creative, because leggings are back with a bang, and are here to stay. Here are some ideas on how you can pair dresses with leggings.
Until very recently, leggings were not an option for a lady to consider, even if it was the last piece of clothing she had to pair with another for a casual event. Leggings were not considered stylish by most women hence, were never even given a second thought. However, today, leggings have made a comeback, and how! They are worn as pants, with dresses, and even with skirts, and still manage to look exceptionally stylish. Dress them up or dress them down in any season, from sizzling summers to warm winters, you will be able to pull them off beautifully. This article is focused on pairing dresses with leggings.

Dresses to Pair with Leggings

While options for the kind of clothes you can pair with leggings are indeed limited, their variations are plenty. In most cases, tunics look like dresses to a certain extent. Yes, the cut and the length may vary, but it is definitely a look you can comfortably pull off. If you don't have a dress and choose to pair a tunic with the leggings, choose a tunic that has a flowy fabric and ends mid-thigh. Use a broad belt to highlight a false waist. Wear a sort of loose, yet stylish tunic ideally with a pair of black leggings (definitely the safest option, though you may venture into blue and gray - only the darker shades).

Summer & Bohemian Styles
Summer Style Pair leggings with a shirt-dress, a sundress or even a little black (but casual) dress! Remember that leggings gel well with Bohemian style fashion and short billowy dresses as well, especially loose chiffon billowy dresses with a contrasting pair of leggings.

However, take note that the contrast should be created with the dress, not the leggings. No matter what dress you wear with the leggings, make sure it reaches at least up to your mid-thigh region and a little above the knee at the most. Shorter than that, it will just look like a gym suit; and longer than that, it will look like you're not too comfortable flaunting your legs.

Winter & Emo styles
autumn style leggings Winter gives you more options to show off your dresses with leggings. Simply opt for a full black theme from top to bottom, or pair a sweater dress with leggings and a pair of calf-high boots. Winters also give you the chance to pair jackets with your dresses and leggings. You may pair a jacket that ends at your waist with a knee length dress, while a shorter dress may be paired with a jacket of the same length.

For example, try an emo style if you think you have the style for it as shown in the following image. Notice how the dress is wrapped a little tightly around, and the way it contrasts with the leggings as well as the hair. Black hair being the most ideal for this look, though you could try with a lighter shade if you're sure to pull it off.

Casual and Petite Styles
Black Style If you're out to try out something a little casual, you can basically try a whole range of designs that will go well with a pair of leggings. The image on the left displays the combination that a polka dot dress has with a pair of black leggings, if you notice, it looks both casual as well as attractive.

Finally, your height matters when you choose to pair a dress with leggings. Petite women should preferably opt for monochromatic colors if they wish to appear taller. You may choose dresses that end mid-thigh or just above the knee. Opt for dresses with a straight cut rather than that with a flair to pair with your leggings. Taller women may go for contrasting colors and choose dresses that end mid-thigh to give them a svelte look.

Once you are done selecting your outfit with leggings, select your shoes and other accessories to wear with them. Depending on the kind of dress you wear, you may choose from ankle and calf-length boots, to ballerinas and stilettos. You can also wear footed leggings with open footwear, especially during winters. If you are working on a monochromatic theme, then make sure your accessories are of the same color; for instance the shoes, bag and jewelry. Try not to wear everything in one color; it may end up looking either too boring or too loud, depending on the color you wear. Ensure that the color of your footwear and bag complement each other, especially if you are opting for a monochromatic look.

As I said earlier, the types of dresses that you can wear with leggings may be few, but you can use a little creativity to reinvent this once-outdated piece of clothing. There are numerous types of leggings from which you can select the one that suits your personality and style mantra. So the next time you go shopping, don't forget to bring home a chic pair of leggings!
