Dreams And Hopes
Sometimes our dreams can be nightmares filled with sorrow.
Huddled in the safety of your embrace,
I'd fled from the terrors of my reality,
Searching for a midnight sanctuary,
And spilled my tears upon your breast.
Don't say there, there, those words don't work,
Patronizing sympathy, I don't understand,
Just hold me close to your heart,
And let me feel it beat in my hand.
So rhythmic and peaceful, yet so remindful,
My thoughts wander back to a time,
When I was strong, yesterday's hero,
When dreams were something worth having.
I dreamed of an optimistic future,
I said I'd build her a castle in the sky,
She promised to be my fairytale princess,
A promise she made on the end of a lie.
We tumbled through the years together,
We braved the storms, rode the waves,
I thought our love would last forever,
Now the fallen hero has nothing left to save.
I stood by a hole in the graveyard of sorrow,
As I lowered my heart on the end of a rope,
And watched it disappear into the void,
Along with all my dreams and hopes.
I'm stuck in the dark with a restless spirit,
Haunted by a memory that never was,
That holds the jealously guarded secret.
There's no such thing as true love.
Despair has wrapped it's veil around me,
But I never asked to be patronized,
Don't speak, my friend, just let me hug thee,
And hold me there until I die.
I'd fled from the terrors of my reality,
Searching for a midnight sanctuary,
And spilled my tears upon your breast.
Don't say there, there, those words don't work,
Patronizing sympathy, I don't understand,
Just hold me close to your heart,
And let me feel it beat in my hand.
