Thus, many dreadlock bearers can be seen in Jamaica. Dreadlocks are nothing but a hairstyle which is formed by heavy matting of hair to form thick braid like structures. Dreadlock Hairstyles for Women
Dreadlock styles go with all lengths of hair, it may be long, short or average. Dreadlock style is said to be one of the natural hairstyles due to the pattern in which the hair are made to grow. Preparing dreadlocks is quite an easy job. Let us take a look at different hairstyles for different lengths of dreadlocks.
Short Hair: Making style from short dreadlocks can be quite difficult, since they cannot be held easily. But these can be beneficial since they do not take time to dry after washing. Bantu knots are some of the popular hairstyles that are used for short dreadlocks. To prepare these knots, first take 4-5 dreadlocks that are near to each other with similar thickness and slowly twist them together. Now, fold these dreadlocks in half to form a downward loop. Then curl the ends of the dreadlocks into the loop and then tuck ends in the knot formed.
Long Hair: Long dreadlocks have a wide scope of experimenting with different styles. But it can be a bit difficult working with them, since they are very heavy. Here is a simple hairstyle for long dreadlocks. First, form cornrows halfway back to your head by forming braids. Then hold the ends of these cornrows with rubber bands. Further, form a ponytail with the loose dreadlocks and then tuck the loose end of the dreadlock to the ponytail base.
Medium Hair: Dreadlocks that reach your neck or slightly brush your shoulders can be treated as medium length dreadlocks. Though there are very few hairstyles that can be done with such length, braids and twists can help come up with good dreadlock styles. To form crinkles in your medium length dreadlocks, first wash your hair properly and then form braids very tightly, to form a single plait. The plaiting should be done when the hair are wet. Then dry the hair with the help of blow dryer or a hooded dryer. The time required to dry the hair depends on the thickness of the hair. Once the hair has dried, disentangle the braids and get a wrinkled look of the dreadlocks.
Given above were some of the popular dreadlock styles for women. Whatever may be the length of the dreadlocks, they can be styled in different ways. You can even go for head wraps to make your dreadlocks look more trendy. Just keep experimenting and come up with a dreadlock hairstyle that suits you the most.
