Well, what do dragonflies eat? The answer is simple. A dragonfly is an insect that eats just about anything that they find in abundance. They often hunt for food in groups when ants or termites are available in large numbers, or when there are swarms of gnats, caddisflies, or mayflies. Dragonflies keep mosquitoes at bay because they feed on them.

All species of dragonflies prefer a carnivorous diet. They are carnivorous not only in their adult stages of their life cycle but also in their larval stage. Dragonflies basically feed on small insects such as bees, butterflies, flies and midges. A dragonfly has the ability to move in different directions swiftly. Hence they can outfly their prey.

Depending on the species of a dragonfly, the habitat also varies. Some species of the dragonfly habitat in marshy land, others prefer clean water or the still waters of the ponds. There are still other species, which have cool running waters of the streams or rivers. Dragonflies are choosy about their habitat. They would not reside in "polluted water. If you happen to see dragonflies around, it is a good sign that the ecosystem is in perfect and good condition. Remember, dragonflies are sensitive to pollution.
