Dr. Lane Bravo's Lectures on Cyntmort - Lecture 8

Listen in on one of Dr. Bravo's lectures on the most important events in the history of the galaxy.
Good day class. I trust you’ve reviewed your notes and are up to speed. I plan on moving forward quite a bit. As I said, this is in my eyes the beginning of Cyntmort’s rise to power.

After Cyntmort was able to determine the cause of death of Shinidel "The Begger", she quickly recognized the problem with the rules concerning headdresses and the poor. She was in an unfortunate situation though because her adopted parents were part of the underground movement trying to overthrow the government.

(Student) What for?

(Bravo) raise your hand please!

(Student) I’m sorry.

(Bravo) Yes, well remember next time, but you have a good question Johnny. You know the truth is, to a guy like me who has studied countless history’s at a planetary level, continental level, country level, and even regional level, Cyntmort’s adoptive parents gripe with the established government, who happened to be Cyntmort’s real parents was important to the people involved but, not a unique situation I guess you would say. It was an all to common conflict between the haves and the have-nots of a society. The faction known as the ‘Purgers’ had been causing civil unrest for at least 150 years on Torrel. They were against taxes and wealth. They rarely were violent but often destructive. I certainly don’t mean to down play their protests but they weren’t original to the era, the planet or the galaxy. It is a timeless protest. I’m sure it is playing out in many places as we speak and will play out in many more to come. Occasionally the results are so note-worthy that it is deemed significant across the galaxy. Those are the events I study. But anyway, back to the question at hand. The ‘Purgers’ biggest gripe with the system at hand was that in order for any one to advance upwards they had to be violent.

Cyntmort herself, wrote lengthy essays concerning the shortcomings of her planet’s resources and the implications it had on the social systems that evolved.

Anyway, Cyntmort was in a tough position because she was a part of the underground movement, so couldn’t just go to the powers that be and tell them of her findings. She would have been jailed immediately for practicing medicine on the poor and not paying the appropriate taxes to the appropriate people.

The other thing that happened was that the underground movement didn’t believe her either. Berry, Cyntmort’s friend wrote a letter to her own parents shortly after the Cyntmort discovered the disease. If there aren’t any questions, I’ll pass a copy of it out to you. And read it out loud to you.

Dear Mother and Father,

As you know I have been a long time participant in the ‘Purger’ demonstrations. I realize this shames you and regret this very much, but know more than ever, I had to reach out to you and express my love for you. I urge you to not disregard my message. Although we have not seen each other in so many years, I assume you are still part of the struggling class, and are forbidden to wear headdresses. I beg of you to figure out how to cover your exposed skin at all costs. It would be better to go to jail for wearing a headdress than it would, to be without. My dear Friend and colleague has discovered a disease that is attacking the poor through their exposed skin. We believe it is caused by exposure to either Sunlight or Starlight. The wealthy seem to be protected because their necks and heads are protected by their headdresses.

Dear Mother and Father please take head of my warning. We cannot go to the authorities and our own people do not believe our findings are conclusive. I will write you again if my friend can solve this terrifying problem.

Love Berry.

Well, our time is up for today, but we’ll discuss the letter and tomorrow. Have a good day!
Are you enjoying the read so far?
A lot - Can't wait for the next lecture.
It's beginning to catch my interest.
There's still hope.
