Dr. Lane Bravo's Lectures on Cyntmort - Lecture 2
Listen in on one of Dr. Bravo's lectures on the most important events in the history of the galaxy.
Lecture - 2
Good morning class. I’ve been struggling with the shorter class times all night long. I think I know what I want to cover today, so if there aren’t any questions I’ll jump right in so we can get through it all.
I want to tell you a little bit about the process of recording this history first. As I mentioned in lecture one, there is a strict policy concerning direct contact with the subject of interest. I did however get around that a little bit in this history thanks to my good friend Callie. But, I’ll get to that. Most of this history is recorded through a series of interviews or interactions. I went under cover a lot for this history. The reason I had to do that was because, for much of Cyntmort’s life she was living underground. I did that with the ingenious help of Callie as well. I mean you should have seen me, I looked exactly like a… do you even know who these people are. Man! I’m sorry, I’m a scatterbrain. Before I get any farther let’s talk about the people and planet of Torrel.
Torrel is a typical sized planet. It is about the size of Earth and has a similar atmosphere composition. The biggest difference is the proportion of oxygen. There is a substantially higher percentage of oxygen on Torrel than there is here on Earth. This allowed for the creatures and vegetation to grow to tremendous size. There are trees on this planet that are almost 500 feet. There are predator cats the size of our Elephants. This isn’t a biology course, but it’s important to realize the scale of the planet because Cyntmort’s species are our size. The planet has three land masses or continents. At the time of Cyntmort’s history they did not have any communication amongst them. The reason for this two-fold. The first reason is there was no nautical activity on the planet. The ocean that surrounded the land masses do not have predictable currents and have some of the biggest and most common occurrences of hurricanes in the galaxy. The second reason there was no connection between the three continents was that there was no air travel on the entire planet. Just as the currents were unpredictable, so too is the wind…There are very few flying animals and the ones that do are small with micro-sized holes in their wings that they open and close to direct the wind to their needs, but the people don’t fly.
Um…They do have technology though. Quite a bit, actually… I’ll leave a detailed discussion to a later lecture, but these folks were not a primitive culture. I should say Cyntmort’s people were not primitive. That is one of the most fascinating things about Torrel. There were three cultures of essentially the same species evolving on the planet. The truth is, only Cyntmort’s people called the planet Torrel. Very fascinating… if you’re into sociology.
Anyway, we’ve got a few minutes left today, so let’s talk about the species. Torrel’s people are a bipedal species with two arms and one head two eyes and one nose similar to us, but if you were to meet one you would probably liken them to a standing turtle, with the coordination of a monkey. They did have fingers and toes, but their skin was… well, turtle like. They were brownish, with a yellowish shell and yes they could and did retract their arms, legs, and head into their shell. During my time on Torrel, I normally only saw them do this during sleep, but there were a few occasions when I saw it for other reasons, and I’ll get to that. But anyway, I have some colleagues trying to reach a consensus as to why the Turtle like species became sentient on Torres instead of the primates, but they are not in agreement at this point, so all I can tell you is it happened and is one of the many wonderful mysteries of the Milky-Way.
Alas… time is up again. Well we’ll pick up where we left off tomorrow. Have a good day.
