Down the Rabbit Hole - Part 6: The Carpenter
Alice and "Cat" continue their adventures but this time they take off while it's still dark outside.
Hey guys, sorry it's been so long. I wanted to post one new chapter every week, but I had a minor writers block. I'm here now, and I'm sorry again.
I also want to send out a special thanks to the following people for commenting my last chapter:
QUEEN Kathy, Bex, Samantha, Sid, Mel, Lacey, & Wandarer!! thanks guys!!!
*** "Mornin!" He told me.
"Morning? In what time zone?!"
"This one..." he pointed to his watch witch read 3:41am. Yeah... three-thirty in the freaking morning.
"Oh." He tossed me some sort of Hearts breakfast bar and a blindfold. And as curious as a Cheshire Cat I had to ask... "What's the blindfold for?"
"For now?" He asked. For now? What kind of question is 'For now?' did he have future blindfold plans?!
"No, for yesterday," I said sarcastically then finished, "Yes, for now."
"Well, You might want it if we come across the Jabberwocky."
"The Jabberwocky?"
"Yes."
"What is it?"
"Let's hope you don't have to find out." Of course he wouldn't go into detail... I hate this silence thing!!!
"Ok." We left the house and entered the dark forest of Hearts in the middle of the night; which, might I add, we were not supposed to be doing, at all. I guess I'd have to trust him on this one. It was cold freezing outside and I was shaking like a dog. Cat turned around and saw me. He handed me his jacket smiled and turned around to keep walking.
"Thank you!"
He just nodded in return. His jacket smelled so good. That might be a weird thing to say, but I loved it! It was like nothing I'd ever smelt before and I couldn't stop breathing through it.
Cat laughed at me "Enjoying yourself?" I didn't even see him turn around. My face must have been five shades of red because he just looked at me and laughed quietly. I just nodded and stopped holding the jacket over my nose. We walked over rough terrain for about an hour before I heard it... A loud screech burst through the tress in front of us. "Oh," he paused for a second... "Time to run, come on."
"Time to run? What do you mea-" screeeeeeeccchhh "Ok. Let's run."
"Don't let go." He grabbed my hand and we ran straight towards the sound. "What are you doing?!" I stopped running "We'll be eaten alive!"
"Blindfold" That's all he said. I took it from him and put it on before he grabbed my hand and started running. We were moving fast and the sound got closer and closer. You could hear the crash of each step this giant creature was taking. I held onto his hand as tight as I could when all of a sudden the sound disappeared.
"Ouch! Lighten up, it's over!" He laughed.
"Sorry." I had nothing to say... I threw out whatever came first to my mind "How did you keep your eyes open and see that thing without freaking out?"
"They weren't open."
"You mean to tell me, you could have run us right into that thing out there?"
He nodded and smiled.
"You're lucky I don't know where I am."
"Come on. The carpenter is just up this hill." We walked a little bit staring at a gorgeous sunrise before we reached the top. A man, probably in his mid-thirties, was standing there waiting for us. I assumed him to be the carpenter. His rough hands were held out in an openly.
"Ah, It's about time. I was expecting you to be here at seven sharp. Ah, well, you are a legend... You have been excused. Anywhooo let's skip the introductions, since I know you and he knows we and you know us, and get to work. Sound good?"
I wasn't sure what to say, he rambled those words off at an insane speedm, "Uh, sure."
"Ok, great! So, Cat..." Why doesn't anyone use his real name!? "Did you get the pieces from the twins?."
He nodded and held out his hand, which was clamped as if it was holding something, but nothing was there.
"Oh, very nice... clean metal, smooth shape, looks like it'll fit perfectly." The man told him. "Alice, come here, please."
"Sure." I walked up to him. "What can I help you with?"
"Put this on." He held out his hands like there was something there.
"Put what on?"
The Carpenter looked at me confused. Cat leaned over and said "She cannot see yet."
"Oh... well then I guess we'll have to train without it...."
Cat nodded.
*** What were they talking about? Why are they pretending something is there when it really isn't? WHAT IS GOING ON!? Will someone help me understand this madness?
... At all? ...
