Down the Rabbit Hole - Part 1: A Simple Start
Welcome to the life of Alice, an 18 year old girl who gets trapped in a new world. Can she escape? A new twist on the old story :)
We all know the classic story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Seeing that the remake of the movie is coming out soon, I thought I'd do a little remake of my own. I have grown up with Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass being my favorite books. When I was younger I watched the Disney movie millions of times; I still do today. My stronger suit is definitely fantasy, but I thought I'd bring a little realism into this. In this story, Alice is an 18 year old girl who gets trapped in a new world. I hope you enjoy my little love story twist on the classic book.

*** The room was dark and quiet. I found myself trying to see my hand in front of my face; however I was getting used to this. Here's how it went: The guys back there first looked over the situation, created a false identity, flipped the lights on, and drilled me with questions to help them decide whether or not to put me on the case. I'm only eighteen, but I was good with little details so liked using me on cases. Sure enough the lights were flipped on burning my eyes not a minute later.
"Alice." A man with a gruff voice called for me. I hardly recognized Capt. Hatter's voice with the cold roughing it up.
"Yes, sir?"
"We have a new mission for you, but you'll have to take on a new identity. Do you mind?"
"Not at all, let me hear what you have." My eyes started to bring the bright room into focus.
"Alice, even though your eighteen, you're one of the best spies we have. Here's the deal. Many people here have been chasing a man who goes by the cover name White Rabbit. He owns three casinos on the strip; in other words, he's extremely powerful. Not only that but he's been in hiding ever since someone let him know that we were after him. He's wanted for drug issues, robbery, and even manslaughter. Alice, we've been chasing the White Rabbit for weeks, please tell me that you're willing to follow him down his hole." He said implying to the fictitious book I loved so much... Alice In Wonderland.
"Always."
"Great, here's..." He continued giving me all the information I needed. He even helped me fake an English accent. He also asked if I'd finally be willing to dye my wavy brunette hair. Of course, I told him no. I'd wear wigs, contacts, anything, but I won't dye my hair. It may be strange, but I like my hair just the way it is.
*** A new mission, a new opportunity; that's the way I always thought of it. They drove me to a place where we had agents who were already trusted around Rabbit's employers and companions. My cover name was Clare McCade and I 'worked' at Casino Royal (One of the casinos the Rabbit owns and most often appears inside of) as an alcohol waitress. Some of the agents, who were trusted among the Rabbit's people, have said they've seen him at one point or another. That is, until he discovered we were in his other two casinos already. At the point in time he just vanished, I suppose. No one has seen him, but they have heard about what he was doing. We were hoping to eventually have a man or woman on the inside of the Rabbit's loop, but very few and lucky people were. There's only one machine even employees can play; the rumor is if you win the 'high stakes/no wins' machine, as they call it, then you get a chance to be on the inside. Apparently the machine had these ridiculous magical 'powers'. The only downside is, people who are questioned are either seen on Rabbit's team or never seen again... at least, that was the rumor.
"Alright, Clare, that's all there is to see in Casino Royal. I trust if you have any questions you'll let me know." Agent Roberts was set up to be the general manager of the floor during certain hours. He showed me the loops and set me on my way. "I'll check in with you in a little while."
"Thanks." I walked up to my first customer, after she waived me down. "What can I get for you, ma'am?"
"Strawberry Daiquiri."
"Alright, I'll be right back."
"I'll be here."
Lucky for me I didn't have to learn how to make the hundreds of different drinks before coming. I had a bartender to do that; another agent. There were only a few of us here, but we each had different jobs. That way we all worked together in some way. There was even an agent pretending to be the janitor; the funny part is he was the closest to the inside anyone has gotten!
*** Every night I had to report back to the headquarters, and it was easy to get there without being seen. Ok, maybe I should explain. All the spies had rooms in their house which were installed by the agency. They were video conference room only accessible by a secret code.
"Good evening, Alice."
"Capitain Hatter..." I said nodding my head slightly with respect.
"How was your day?"
"It was boring. There was nothing interesting to speak of. Just because I have to think of something, there was a woman who kept waiving me down for drinks."
"What was her name?" he asked opening up his governmental computer.
"The card and license said Lisa Logan."
He typed in his computer "Look at this, Alice." Next he pulled up a blank screen that names and information usually appear on.
"It's blank."
"Yeah, it is. What did she look like."
"Brick red hair, moderate height, brown eyes, and that's all I can remember, really."
"Anything else?"
"She never changed machines and she wasn't too happy when I was around. Why she kept waving me down is beyond me."
"Alice, what was the machine?"
"A game called hearts. Why do you ask?"
"Just curious. Tell me if she's on the same machine tomorrow. Goodnight, Alice."
"Night, Capt. Hatter."
I logged off the conference, showered, and climbed into bed. I heard something move around 3am, right before my alarm went off for "work". I flipped my light on and saw a woman's shadow run along my wall...
