Double Honor for Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is having the year end on a good note for him, winning a career achievement award and being named as one of the top entertainers of the decade...
The charismatic and whimsical star of blockbuster movies like Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Johnny Depp has been named as one of the fifteen entertainers of the decade by Entertainment Weekly. Although always lauded for his acting skills and tendency to take up offbeat roles, it was only after the hugely successful Pirate movies, which raked in $305 million dollars, that Johnny Depp has become a highly bankable star, even for producers who want to play safe. The character of Jack Sparrow achieved cult status, making Depp one of the biggest stars of the decade.

But it looks like more honors are to follow, as Leslie Vanderpool, Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) founder and executive director, announced that Johnny Depp will be honored with the much coveted Career Achievement Award at the Film Festival, which will take place from December 10-17 in Nassau. "There is no actor better suited to receive BIFF's highest honor, the Career Achievement Award. Johnny Depp is one of the finest actors of our generation and is, simply put, an icon. We're all tremendously excited to bestow him with this honor and celebrate his incomparable career. What makes this tribute to Johnny even more special is that he has a home in the Bahamas and possesses a true love and appreciation for the region and culture. This will be an amazing and magical event for everyone involved." he said. Past recipients of this prestigious award include the actor that kick started Depp's career Nicolas Cage, Daryl Hannah and Laurence Fishburne.

No stranger to titles, only recently Johnny Depp was named sexiest man alive by People Magazine. He also tops in the dubious poll of 'Actors most overdue to win at the Oscars' (which also featured other noteworthy performers like Leonardo Di Caprio, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise among others). Depp will next be seen in the much awaited Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, where he will be playing the role of Mad Hatter.
