Double Baby Stroller - Comfort and Its Importance
The ergonomics of a double baby stroller can prevent frustration and injury.
The ergonomic features of a double baby stroller are often overlooked, many parents placing them behind price and looks when deciding which stroller to purchase online.
Most models these days have padded and/or a rib-grip handlebar surface for comfort and security.
An average double baby stroller will usually stop there as far as the pusher’s comfort goes.
The babies and toddlers – the occupants – are, of course, the main concern. Padded seats are a must for a smooth ride, especially in a jogging stroller! Many mid-range models have removable seat pads, a great hygienic bonus as well as a comfort boost.
Be seated!
Quality secure seating is also recommended. More than just a feature to shield the children from potential visible physical damage (if they were to fall forward!), secure seating also protects from back pain or even permanent injury! One or two strollers have been taken off the market in the past few years for not properly supporting the back in a semi-reclined seat but, still, the regulations are far too lax for us to assume best support unless we’re purchasing a reputable, quality double baby stroller.
Price does matter... to an extent
The popular brands like Graco, Maclaren and Peg Perego (among others) put their mid-range (and higher) double baby stroller models through independent testing before release, so you know you’re going to get something that has met stringent quality requirements. Even the lower-priced models are put through a standardized test to check that the most critical components stand up to the claims made by the manufacturer in product listings, etc.
Foot rest importance on a double baby stroller
Another important feature to consider is an appropriate foot rest on the double baby stroller. If you have a toddler, this should definitely be on your list to tick off. The reasons why foot rests are important are varied, but many are the same as those that promote good ergonomics in the workplace – if your feet have a solid surface on which to rest (instead of dangling in the air), the body feels more at rest and that can lower heart-rate and such. Quite extraordinary, the difference such a (seemingly) minor thing makes.
The bright, glaringly obvious villain!
Babies should not be exposed to too much sunlight. Sun shades with good coverage (for both occupants) are often taken for granted, and even toddlers should not be left with direct sunlight on their face for extended periods in certain geographical locations.
Double baby stroller reviews
Remember to always read the reviews of a double baby stroller (like on Amazon or other information/review websites) and pay attention to mentions of quality. If a particular function seems flimsy or poorly built (in the reviewer’s eyes), see how it might affect your or your baby’s comfort. For instance, a stroller with often-mismatched stitching on its material is not as big a deal as the same stroller having very a seat that moves and makes the kids feel uncomfortable. Of course, this is common sense, but I just wanted to point that out as an example.
On Amazon in particular, the reviews come in such a high number for the popular models that you should be able to discern all qualitative features and lack thereof. With all of this in mind, there should be little left to stop you from making an informed decision regarding your stroller purchase. If you already have a double baby stroller, make sure it ticks the boxes discussed!
