Doon's Butterflies Return Home

Residents of Dehradun and its nearby areas are overwhelmed with the migration of large number of green color butterflies. Entomologists of Forest Research Institute are still in quest of what is the exact reason behind their migration.
Recently, Dehradun, a salubrious hill station and state capital of Uttarakhand is currently the focal point of entomologist discussions. A large number of green color butterflies migrated to Dehrudun region. Doonites was overwhelmed with this high number of butterflies migration.

Few days back, it was observed that the butterflies migrated from east to west, but this time, they took the opposite direction, means from west to east. As per the Entomology Division of Forest Research Institute, this migration of butterflies is a very common phenomenon during this season as it is the season of moth breeding. It is observed that always after the mating, the male butterflies dies, whereas the female vanishes after laying eggs.

Entomologists of the aforementioned organization believed that the butterflies which has migrated in the month of July were maybe the young ones that recently came out of the eggs. These green color butterflies are mostly visible in the 'Sal' forests and fields.

Chandrabadni, Vasant Vihar, FRI, downtown Dehradun and Nehru Gram areas of Dehradun are the regions where Catopsilia (Emigrants) are the most prominent ones among the migrating butterflies. There are 60 different species of migratory butterflies available in India.

Entomologists are still in quest of the exact reason behind this migration of young butterflies (offsprings). Research also revealed that these offspring butterflies mostly follows compass direction for navigation purposes. Some entomologists believe that may be due to lack of good quality food and overcrowding, these green color butterflies move from one place to other.
