Don’t Look Now, but Whitney Houston is Back!
Whitney Houston, after fighting for years with everything from drugs to Bobby Brown, blew away an audience of music royalty at a pre-Grammy party on Sunday.
Some thought it impossible after seeing how far from grace she had fallen in recent years and how destructive her relationships and drug use had become. But Whitney Houston, appears at a pre-Grammy party in honor of her musical mentor Clive Davis, was simple stunning in her performance, both looking and sounding good in a comeback that did not go unnoticed among a large collection of "A-list" stars gathered at the party. Said Jamie Foxx, who stood near the stage during the show and recorded a video, "We all crossed our fingers that her beautiful story would end [happily]."
Houston’s performance, dubbed a "mini-concert" by some in the media, came amidst other performances, including a few numbers by Kelly Clarkson, a monologue by Kanye West and an interesting (but very well received) duet between Jennifer Hudson and Barry Manilow. Said West, "I have to bow in the presence of greats right now." West referred to the incredible collection of talent at the party, which included Paul McCartney, Prince, Diddy, Quincy Jones and many others.
Among the songs Houston did in her triumphant performance were "I Will Always Love You," "It’s Not Right, But It’s OK" and "I’m Every Woman." Houston, who is now 45 and one of the best-selling artists of all time, hasn’t made an album since 2002, though the performance and her apparent victory over personal demons may change that in short order. Said Foxx, "She was on it, she was happy – she’s back. Everybody else watch out."
