Don't Lease Your Next Apartment Home Until You Know This
Outlines what apartment renters may want to know before they lease their next apartment home.
Sometimes we are such in a hurry to lease our new apartment home we often overlook things that will make us happier, and our apartment stay more comfortable. And in today’s economy many of us are looking to trim our costs a little bit too. The whole leasing process goes by so fast and most of us are more concerned about getting our pay stubs and references together.
We have put together a short list of items that may make a big difference in your apartment search before and just after you sign the lease. Remember you probably will be living in your next apartment home for a year so take the time to make the best decisions for yourself.
Are you concerned about crime?
Although the apartment leasing agents will keep mum about this topic in your apartment home, doing a little research can go a long way. If you are moving into a large city like Houston, you can retrieve crime data from the police departments website. This can give you an idea of what kind of crime and the frequency that may be occurring at the apartment facility.
Who is the apartment management company?
Having an item break in your apartment home is unfortunate. But how fast will the maintenance crew fix the problem. There are some really good management companies out there and there are some awful ones too. You will want to do some quick research on the Internet. If anyone has bad experiences you will probably be able to find it online.
Where is your apartment unit located on the property? Many times we don’t see our apartment unit until the day of our move in. Take the time to check out the surroundings. If it is adjacent to a busy street or has a view of a wall, this might change your mind. It may be too late to change the location after you sign your lease and move in.
After you move in your apartment leasing agent will present you with a form. It will ask you to walk through your apartment home and fill out anything that may need repair or reconditioning. If you choose not to fill out the form and return it in a timely manner you may be hurting yourself. It is in your best interests to put this on the top of the list. Most renters we know are trying to unpack and get the cable and Internet hooked up.
Good luck with your next Stafford apartments search.
