Don't Break Your Apartment Lease

There area certain ways you can terminate your apartment lease early. Make sure you don't leave improperly.
There are a few things renters do that can not only hurt their credit but prevent them from ever being approved to a decent apartment. Before you sign your lease make sure you read the entire contract. Don't leave any page unscathed. Most of the contracts are very similar. One of the most important pieces of the contract will include the exit agreement.

Many of the apartments will require a 60 notification. You will want to notify the apartment in writing and make a copy for yourself too. Don't think that you can simply move out after the lease term has ended. Many may find themselves in a difficult situation.

However, most apartments are normally very good about this by leaving notices on your door detailing the situation. Now if you must leave your apartment community in the middle of your lease you most likely will have to pay a termination fee. Many properties will require you pay a flat rate equal to two months rent. Others may not only require a termination fee plus the apartment community must lease your unit out to future renters as well. If they are unable to you are still responsible for your monthly rent until the termination of your lease.

Sometimes there are exceptions to this which include if you are in the military. In this case you won't have to worry about leaving your apartment home. Sometimes apartment communities will also have an "out clause" if you company moves you to another city. You will need to read the fine print clarify these rules. Also understand when you do leave your apartment home you should clean up your unit. Many apartments will withhold your deposit if the apartment unit is not in the condition it was when you moved in.
