Dominican Republic Holidays: A Great Time to Visit

Independence Day is then right around the corner. On February 26th, the people of the Dominican Republic celebrate their independence from Haiti. While there are celebrations that go on throughout the DR for this holiday, Santo Domingo has the best. Semana Santa is celebrated for the first half of the month. During this time, festivals can be found all over the DR. The festivals all celebrate Christian Holy Week, and they are a lot of fun to attend.

August brings about one of the most powerful celebrations in the Dominican Republic. From 1863 to 1865 the Dominican Restoration War took place. This war was very important to the history of the DR, as it was necessary in order to keep Spain from colonizing the DR. On the 16th of August, Restoration Day honors that period of time. You will be able to see the pride the people of the Dominican Republic have when you attend one of the celebrations.

For those who want to celebrate a traditional holiday, Christmas in the DR is a great time to visit. You will be able to find different festivals and festivities during this time of the year.
