Dogs Good For Children and Dogs Good For The Family.

When choosing the right dog for your children you have to be careful. Not all dog breeds are children friendly, in reality there are many dogs that have not patience toward children, and therefore should not be chosen when looking for a family dog. Learn which are some of the top dogs that are good with children.
Why would people bring dogs to their homes, some people may ask? The answer is rather simple. Bringing a new puppy home means a lot of fun and love and busy times too. With a new puppy or a new dog comes also a lot of responsibility.

Do not get a dog just because you think the dog is cute, or because you want a dog to protect your home. If you have small ones in the house, you need to be very careful about what kind of dog you want to adopt. You have surely learned of dogs that have attacked children or even the adults of the house. This could definitively be prevented if you choose the right dog to adopt.

So what type of dog should a potential owner bring to a house that has children? The answer is very straight forward. A dog good with kids is the choice. Being aware and doing some research to find out which dogs are good with children and which dogs are not very tolerant to them is critical for the success of the relationship with your dog in the future.

One of the most popular family dogs that are great with kids is the Labrador retriever. The lab although a big dog, also has a big heart. They tend to love every member of the family from the youngest one to the oldest one. Labs are playful, intelligent very sweet animals. They love to be petted and want to be around their owners all the time. When considering adopting a lab the potential owner needs to take into consideration that these dogs need plenty of exercise to avoid boredom.

Similar to the Labrador retriever, is the Golden retriever. The Golden retriever is another big dog, with a kind, big heart. They are sweet and gentle, and they are good with children, the elderly and the handicapped. A very intelligent animal that can be easily trained. They are friendly and good mannered and perfect for children that are active and who love the outdoors. They enjoy playing fetch and need a great deal of exercise. Grooming is necessary for this breed, due to their long hair.

Another dog that the potential owner might want to consider, especially if the Labrador retriever and the Golden retriever are too large in size for what they are looking for, is the Beagle. The Beagle is a smaller dog, that is great with children and they can be a lot of fun to be around. Beagles are submissive and not aggressive, but they are good watch dogs because of their wailing bark. If left alone they tend to get bored and will howl. Because they are very playful and because of their small size they are great for smaller children.
