Dog Treats - Cater To Your Pet

Ever heard the phrase "he doesn't know he is a dog"? Dogs aren't just "dogs" anymore. They are celebrating their own birthday's, have Christmas presents, have their own chair to sit in, go where we go, and are considered just as big a part of the family as the kids, grandparents, or crazy Aunt Buhela. Along with their status of family, they also get their own personal gourmet dog treats.

High quality, natural dog treats are more and more in demand. They are a healthy break from the regular boxed biscuits sold for pets in the large grocery stores. These so-called "gourmet" snacks are made with the same sort of items we use to prepare meals for ourselves. They have gained fans among those who believe in a completely natural dietary regimen for their pets, as well as with pet owners who purchase and use standard canned dog food products for dinners but just want to offer their canine friends an additional assortment of tasty, healthy snacks.

Owners can now accompany their dogs to a special kind of bakery store which caters exclusively to pets. The two of them can browse together through all the different varieties of doughnuts, tarts, brownies, and biscuits available. Are you fortunate enough to have one of these pet bakeries where you live?

Pet stores, gift shops, supermarkets and department stores are the main places that sell preservative free and gourmet pet goodies. They can also be bought online using internet. These are normally packed either in small plastic bags or window boxes. There are specialist merchants who supply only vegetarian dog treats, in low-fat treats, or in treats for pets with food allergies.

Here is an alert for those with obese dogs. Although the so-called "gourmet" dog treats may be manufactured using human grade, basically healthful ingredients, their calorie levels and fat grams might actually be rather high. If your dog needs to lose pounds or must at the very least maintain his current weight, you should scan the ingredients carefully and only use those treats which contain less fat. Keep in mind also that snacks must never constitute more than 10% of your dog's intake each day.

If you are a person who likes to bake, then you can pamper your dogs with treats like these, fresh from your own kitchen, at a fraction of the cost of buying them. For some of the dog food recipes, you probably have many of the ingredients already, especially if you're a bread maker.

It usually takes more time to bake dog biscuits than it does to bake most of our cookie recipes. That is because, even though you mix and bake it the same way as other cookies, the dough is thicker than other cookie dough. Your dog may also like Flint River Ranch dog food.
