You may not realize that you are actually training your dog to behave negatively in certain situations, but it is a common occurrence among dog owners. The way you react in certain situations has an effect on your dog's behavior. Unhappy with your dog's action, you yell at him and put him in the basement because you don't like his excited and unruly behavior.

If you keep on yelling and locking your dog in the basement, he will become more anxious and unruly whenever you have visitors at home. This may even make your dog react aggressively whenever you have visitors. He will know that everything is happy and normal when he and your family are at home together. He will also associate the arrival of visitors with his being yelled at and locked away. You've just managed to teach you dog that every time a guest arrives he will get yelled at and locked in the basement. His only logical response will be to start seeing guests as a bad thing.

The important point is that you should be aware of handling your dog properly in all kinds of situations, so that he is not negatively impacted from the experience. Realizing that you did not properly train your dog is a step towards an enjoyable life together with your dog. Obviously, not every situation can be addressed in this short article.
