Dogs are created on habits that start as a young puppy and if he sleeps with you the first night away from its mother than the chances of it missing you all the time are very high.
While you are about in the different room try not to make it obvious you guys are away from each other. We see so many people try this then go vacuum or do the dishes and make a loud noise while doing this. These noises remind him that you guys are not together. This may sound really small and simple but it is the way a dogs brain works in fact.
