Do You Need an Eye Exam?
Most people at some point in their lives will require some form of vision correction such as glasses, contact lenses, or even corrective surgery. For these people, there will come a day when they realize that their vision is not as sharp as it once was. A few signs exist, however, that one should be on the lookout for that may signal that they should get an eye exam. These signs include:

Pain in the eyes - Pain in the eyes can be a sign of a serious eye condition. It must also be noted, however, that occasional, minor eye pain may not be serious. In fact, there are a few things that can cause minor, non-serious eye pain, including bright light, having a cold or the flu, allergies, and some medication which can have temporary eye pain as a side effect. But if the eye pain is severe or persisting and doesn't go away within a short period of time, or if it occurs frequently, then it may be serious and require a visit to an eye doctor.

Blurred vision - Experience blurred vision can be another sign that something is wrong with your eyes. But like with eye pain, blurred vision can also be temporary and benign. For example, staying up too late, eye allergies, or a sudden increase or decrease in a room's lighting can cause temporary blurry vision. But if the blurry vision does not seem to be going away, then it may be a sign of something more serious and an eye exam may be in order.

A year or more passing since your last eye exam - Some serious eye conditions, such as glaucoma, may not initially present symptoms. For this reason, it is important to get regular eye exams so your doctor can rule these conditions out, or detect them early enough so that treatment will be more effective.

It is important to make eye exams a regular part of your health maintenance. A lot of people tend to not go in for regular medical checkups, skip the dentist because they are afraid, and completely forget about their eye health. By being proactive with your eyes and your vision, you can help ensure healthy eyes for many years to come.
