Do We All Hate Waiting?

Regardless of the right reasons and all good purposes, waiting is a part of the process that we all oftentimes hate. Yet, somehow, God knows that we need it so He allows periods of waiting in our lives.
How long have you waited for something dear to your heart to happen? Sometimes people wait for weeks, months or long years until some of God's promises for them come true. It is not fun all the time, and often times it is very painful but I have come to the point where I said to myself (and to God too): "Sorry, I cannot carry this any longer, do You still want me to wait? I can't any more, that's it!" I have said this a couple of times in my life but when I asked God for help, He somehow gave it and I had strength to actually keep waiting. I know now that whenever you feel like you are out of resources in this area, the best choice is to ask God for new strength and He will give it to you, I know He does, I experienced it!

I am amazed to see how much David had to wait from the moment God anointed him as king, to the moment when this actually occurred! Long years of waiting when he had plenty of time to wonder if this is really going to happen, if someday God will bring His promise to pass.

Oh and that day came! Interestingly how 3 days before his greatest victory, David had gone through the darkest hour of his life. His own people turned against him and threatened to kill him, but David encouraged himself in the Lord and did the right thing fighting the battle.

Do you see it here? Encouraging yourself in the Lord especially when it comes to long waiting periods is the best thing you can do. Of course you can act like a desperate or maybe turn to people (if any that you could turn to) but the real solution is ONLY in God's hand. Why not turn to Him? Is it really worth it trying all other solutions (that did not actually represent solutions for others either) before you turn to God? Well, we have the general tendency to do so, but we should surely remember from the past that in the end, it was only God who brought the viable solution.

So why don't we just turn to Him first? Somehow we learn this lesson in a rather lengthy process, but hopefully, we learn it!

In the meantime God tells us that the outcome of this process is greatly rewarding on the long run too. God's purpose is to make us strong and to have all we need, not lacking anything as James says in his letter about perseverance:"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith and beliefs develop perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

Patience or perseverance is not just until we, with our human view, end up saying "that's it, I can't take it anymore!" It obviously has to "finish its work" in order to complete its purpose that is our maturity and unwavering behavior. Just as a child has to wait until he will be allowed to drive the car - regardless of how much he enjoys doing that at 2 years of age - he simply needs to reach that maturity and physical development to complete such a task. We all know how hazardous and life-threatening would be to let a child behind the wheel! Just the same way, we might have the physical maturity, yet, many times we think we also have the spiritual maturity for "driving" trough certain tasks. Yet, God who really knows us better than we know ourselves (therefore 'somehow' He Knows we did not really learn the lessons we thought we learned) still has to lead us trough this maturity process that involves waiting. The outcome of waiting is completion, is a level of maturity that lacks nothing, isn't that great? Now you can "drive"!

Can you picture yourself lacking nothing and having everything from abundance? That is where God wants to take you, greatly rewarding your patience! "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will HIMSELF restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." 1Peter 5:10. Yes, God will make you unchanging, steady, firmly loyal, constant and unswerving.

Remember that this waiting process has an awesome reward and you are not alone in it but God Himself restores you, strengthens you in the process and you will be firm and unswerving as result. Don't give up waiting, God is there with you. He gives you the resources every day and every step of the way!
