Do It Yourself - Kitchen Cabinet Refacing
Change is the only constant factor about everything and kitchen cabinets are no exception. The same color and style gets boring after a while. Changing the whole unit is difficult and expensive but refacing or revamping the old cabinets is a good solution. Refacing your kitchen cabinet does not mean going all out to change the existing cabinets. Refacing literally means to re- face the cabinets. So, from a plethora of available materials you can reface your kitchen cabinets all by yourself.

To get a gorgeous kitchen, try to match your kitchen cabinets with the walls. If you have a flexible budget, then veneers are really in. Veneer is a thin layer of wood or stone. Wood veeners look great and are highly durable. With a beige theme you can try some brown shades of veneer. The do-it-yourself project is easy with veeners. Just pull the protective backing of the sheet and place it on the surface, with a little pressure. Make sure that there are no air bubbles trapped between the veneer sheet and the surface.

To accentuate the doors, you can have veneer edge banding which will compliment your veneer laminates. Laminates are a good option too. A wide range of colorful laminates are available for refacing. A mix-n-match of these colors can make your kitchen look wonderful.

If your cabinets are not reaching the ceiling, then you will need moldings. Moldings are made out of pine, oak or a material called MDF. Pine is the most inexpensive material and it looks very elegant. Oak finds its presence where it is most likely to be stained. Hence, oak wood would be a viable option for kitchen cabinets. Plane moldings are easier to clean than the ones with curves and carvings. The intricate moldings called crown moldings add to the aesthetic value.

To reface the drawers, determine the size of the material you will be using, such as veneer or laminates. You will need some glue and nails. Once you've cut out the desired shape, stick onto the drawers and hammer in a few nails so that the laminates don't fall of. Importantly, don't let any air in between the two surfaces. This will put all your efforts to naught.

When doing the drawers, a screw driver is the first necessary tool. Needless to say, nuts and bolts too. To go about your work smoothly, arrange all your equipments and tools in order. To make all the molding and cutting of the laminates in correct sizes and shapes, you will need a saw. Buy a milter saw which has a good quality of construction and can be used for furniture making.

Refacing your kitchen cabinets by yourself is absolutely easy. Before you begin, lay out a budget and time plan. Organization is an integral tool of all your work. So organize everything neatly and carefully. A penny saved is a penny earned, so make your purchases carefully. Doing the kitchen cabinets at home will do a lot of saving. So get ready to revamp your kitchen cabinets by yourself!
