DIY Aquarium Stand Plans
Homemade aquarium stands are usually made up of wood. Canopy structures having open leg stands or box like shapes offer complete support to the aquariums. You can easily carry out the aquarium maintenance processes like cleaning, washing, etc., with this flexible type of stand. Designing a robust iron stand is also a good idea for keeping your aquarium in it. Iron or wood will be the perfect material for making a 55 gallon aquarium stand. So how to build an aquarium stand?
Step 1
Since the standard fish tank size is taken as 75 gallon, the measurements will follow accordingly. The basic materials required for building the stand are cardboard, wood stain, wood sealer, cinder blocks, sandpaper and plywood. The cinder blocks will make the surface for keeping the aquarium. The wooden legs will be attached to the blocks having a base made of cardboard.
Step 2
Draw a rough sketch of the table stand on a sheet of paper. Take the measurements correctly and draw a model of the stand. This will aid you in performing the practical work with ease. Here we shall construct a basic table for keeping the 75 gallon aquarium tank. The size of the plywood will be 50/20 inches while each piece of cardboard will measure 8/6 inches. The height of the stand will be made as per your choice and so the height of the wooden legs will be taken accordingly.
Step 3
To make a table like structure, first assemble the wooden legs in a square fashion. Attach three cardboard pieces on the top of the box with nails. Make sure there's at least 13 inch distance in between each sheet. This will form the base of the table on which the cinder blocks will be placed. The cinder blocks will have holes at the corner that is attached with the cardboard with holes down fashion.
Step 4
The blocks are attached in a row like manner on the top of which the plywood will be placed. You should sand the plywood before attaching them on the top of the cinder blocks. Place the first sheet of plywood on the top of the cinder block and then glue it with a wood sealer. Repeat the process till a triplex layer has been formed. The successive layers of plywood and cinder blocks ensure durability to the stand. Make sure the top layer is plywood that will be in contact with the base of the aquarium. You can paint the stand with your favorite hue of wood stain.
So that was the most simple and basic design of a DIY aquarium stand. You can implement the same design for a 120 gallon or a 50 gallon tank as well by varying the measurements. If you have framed the concept of making a stand yourself, then you carry out the plan without much difficulty. Purchase the best quality materials that will last for a considerable time period without the risk of being damaged. Place the aquarium carefully and make sure it fits well in the stand.
