Both these companies have locked horns with each other over the last two decades. The third company which has a major share in the United States home entertainment industry is Comcast Corporation - the largest cable TV service provider in the country.

The Dish Network Corporation and The DirecTV Group are two major players in the American home entertainment arena. Over the last two decades, several satellite TV service providers entered the market and eventually merged with wither of these two entities, thus bringing them to the level at which they are today. Given below are reviews for each of these two service providers, which will highlight their positive and negative attributes in a bid to make you aware of what you can expect when you subscribe to these services.

Dish Network
Dish Network is the third largest pay-TV provider in the United States, which also provides Internet access and interactive television services for its subscribers. It has more than 14 million residential as well as commercial customers in the United States alone. Dish Network satellite TV has hundreds of channels to offer in form of four packages. In terms of price, the cheapest package comes at $29.99 and offers as many as 120 channels, while the costliest package comes at $99.99 and offers 250 top channels and 31 premium movie channels. Dish Network Internet, the high speed Internet service provided by Dish Network, is believed to be 50 times faster than its traditional dial-up counterpart. Dish Network has quite a few advantages over DirecTV, most prominent ones among which are more capacity in terms of Digital Video Recorder service and more international programming. Dish Network also scores over its counterpart in terms of pricing.

DirecTV
Direct TV is the second largest pay-TV provider in the United States with a subscriber base of 18 million for its satellite TV and high speed Internet services. A look at Direct TV review make you realize that DirecTV has a wide range of packages to offer, right from the basic Family Pack, which gives you access to around 50 channels, to more advanced Premier Pack, which gives you access to as many as 280 channels. While DirecTV television services can be accessed through a satellite dish, the company has got into pacts with some of the largest Internet service providers in the United States to provide broadband and DSL Internet access to its subscribers. Going by the Direct TV Internet service review, Direct TV's slowest Internet speed is way faster than that of its counterparts. Even though the Direct TV channels list has more HDTV channels and some special sports packages to its credit, you get them only if you are ready to spend something extra on it.

Everything is not goody-goody though, as there also exist some problems which are common to either of these service providers. You need to use a satellite dish and set top box to access these services, and use of satellite dish to access signal can become a nuisance in rough weather conditions. Customer reviews suggest that the customer service for both companies ranges between average and below average.

While these were the general reviews for the two service providers, customer reviews show mixed response from people who have already subscribed to these services. One can't ignore the fact, the quality of services provided by these companies will differ to some extent from one region to another, and therefore you should ideally compare these service providers with each other (as well as other options such as Comcast, AT&T etc.,) before you subscribe for either of them.
