Discover All About Different Team Building Ideas

Team building is beneficial on many levels; whether to build team morale, improve communication, boost confidence levels, or simply to create a more harmonious working environment. However, deciding which of the many different team building ideas to go for is not always easy with the people in a team being made up of such a mix of types, genders, backgrounds and personalities.
By bringing this range of experience and knowledge together to create a coherent working unit, is where successful team building is so key.

It is worth spending some time deciding between the different options and team building ideas that are available to you. Key to making such a decision is working out how your team would fit in with each different activity type available, defining the goals you want to achieve and ascertaining the areas of strength and weakness each individual can bring to the table.

If your team is made up of young, vibrant, athletic individuals, a thorough physical workout would probably be best. If however the team is formed of educated, thoughtful types, something more intellectually challenging would be called for.

It is most likely the group will be made up of a mix of these, and you will need to get creative and incorporate a mix of activities. Below are the types of activities you should consider.

Athletic and physical activities are best for those eager to break up the daily grind of office work, get out into the fresh air and work other parts of their bodies rather than just the gray matter. A weekend orienteering, sailing, or rock climbing could be just the thing.

Whilst creating a competitive edge can be rewarding, it is worth bearing in mind that many shy away from competition in the workplace. As a result, splitting the group into separate teams to pull together can reap fantastic dividends.

Such activities will improve communication, team spirit, increase mental agility and create a sense of shared ownership and fair play. For the less physical, activities such as; shooting and archery could be incorporated.

In the evenings, more intellectually demanding team building ideas could play a part. These are fantastic to host after the team dinner, and can draw on the experience of the day's challenges.

Ask a set of questions that calls on memory of monuments and landmarks passed, or perhaps ask them to analyze successes and failures and explain what the driving force behind each was. With no definite answers, this allows for individuality to be expressed, and alerts the mind to thinking outside of the box. It also lessens the competitive nature that was evident earlier in the day.

By incorporating a mix of different activities; you will empower all sectors of your group and encourage them to use their talents, whilst also challenging them to rely on their colleagues for support in other areas.

Do not forget either to ask the team what team building ideas they themselves have, and would enjoy doing. Whilst difficult, try and incorporate as many of these in your activities. People have a natural desire to be listened to and respected. Remembering this above all else will all but guarantee the success of your team building exercise.
