Discouragement Tests
We don't want it, but discouragement comes and it strikes repeatedly. It is crucial to remember three things so that we don't let ourselves dragged in Satan's mud. See what those things are...
Life seems to have prepared and ready some discouragement tests for everybody from time to time. Unfortunately these tests don't only come once in a lifetime. They repeat and if you've been there, you know the sheer bitterness of the moments when you just don't see a way out, you just seem to be stuck in a rut where the poisonous sting of depression and discouragement seem to suck the life out of you. We all dread those times and if we don't fear them, we still despise them to say the least. But is there something we can do in those dark moments?
Yes there surely is: in those moments, more than ever, it is crucial to pray to ask for God's help, many times it is only Him that can do something to really lift our spirit. However, a veridical understanding of the whole process is very helpful! What actually happens in the natural is a direct consequence of the battle that occurs in the spiritual realm.
For instance when you feel down and disheartened remember that:
1 - It is not God who is the author of those feelings! It is Satan your enemy that wants to destroy you by using these venoms! Fear, threat and dreadfulness are Satan's specialty, he is the master of terror, so when you feel these negative emotions know that they are not from God therefore do not open your heart to them, cast them out! God is peace, security, holiness and love, not despair, discouragement and fear.
2 - Remember that the battle has already been won and remember that Jesus Christ is the conqueror of all Satan's plans and when you ask God to help you, He will. Just look in the past when you were in a similar situation! Remind yourself of all those times when God pulled you out from deep trouble in ways that you couldn't think of!
3 - Look in the Bible to see that all the people of God have been in situations where their lives were threatened, see what they did and do the same! A good example in that sense is David, he was in a desperate situation, the enemies have taken as pray their goods, wives and children and David's own people turned against him thinking about killing him. What did David do? He encouraged himself in the Lord, God gave him strength and they went after the enemy, won the battle and were able to bring everything the enemy have taken plus much more! So, do the same! Visualize that you can withstand Satan's venom by faith, be confident in God's Word that He will never leave you nor forsake you and you will win the battle! All the battles in the lives of God's children came only with one purpose: to be won! You will conquer everything that comes your way from the enemy because Satan (and his strategies) has been defeated by Christ!
That's why when the test of discouragement comes your way, remember that you can and you will overcome, pray, look back in the past and keep in mind how God made a way when you thought there was no way; encourage yourself in the Lord and have confidence in the fact that after the battle is won, you will be greatly rewarded!
You know, the enemy only gives you trouble because he sees that God has great things coming in your life and he wants to stop that! Imagine how discouraged Joseph must have felt when his brothers sold him as slave and on top of that, he was put in jail while he was innocent; he spent two and a half years in prison! Yet, look at his more than glorious outcome and remember how in the midst of trouble God is there with his people so do not let despair get the best of you! Trust God with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Do you remember how Satan wanted to try Job and killed all his children, destroyed all his fortune (he had many reaches!) and what's more, Satan stroke Job with an awful disease, so bad that even his own wife couldn't stand the smell. She told him:"Curse God and die!" but Job answered instead that God gives and God takes away and he blessed God's Name. What an attitude! Of course after his testing period was over, God gave Job much more than he had before!
God sees the pain Satan wants to poison you with! Jesus Christ will not leave you nor forsake you that's why, don't give up! Fight the good fight of faith and you will enjoy the wonderful victory! Don't you dare give up in front of a defeated enemy! May God help us all be winners and have the victory in all our battles!
