- There are a wide number of discs that are available in the market. The weight of the disc helps you decide which disc to choose. Beginners must opt for lighter discs which will glide well and fly straight. Heavy discs are difficult to control and are over stable to balance.
- Distance and accuracy while playing disc golf is developed with proper technique and practice. If you are a new player in this game, you must try to keep your disc flat. Distance (that is covered with the disc) is increased with time and practice.
- The very first thing when you start playing the game is to have a better grip of the disc. Your grip on the disc must be such that all four fingers must be under the disc. The disc must be held firmly, but at the same time your grip must be loose enough to let your forearm and wrist move freely. Your thumb must be on the edge of the disc.
- Balancing yourself well along with proper footwork is important and will decide the probability of success in this game. Balancing is a crucial technique that is to be developed while playing this game. You must balance your body well right from the X-step (crossing your legs). If you are throwing the disc with an extra run up, the last three steps of your run up will help you form the X-step. At this step, try to stay lighter and smoother for an effective throw.
- The next disc golf tip is that when you balance the body before the throw, make sure that most of your body weight must be on the front foot. Putting weight on the back foot is dangerous for your ankles and knees. This may lead to serious injuries.
- The next important tip is about the reach-back step in which you reach back and then throw the disc. It is advisable to reach back to a comfortable position with which you can maintain a good balance.
- Proper shoulder rotation is important than the muscle power in disc golf. Your elbow extension when you throw the disc will be the main source of power.
- Once you throw the disc, a good follow through will help you avoid any injures during the game.
- Lastly, apart from these formal disc golf throwing techniques, enjoy the game to the fullest and do not get intimidated by the accuracy and distance of experienced players. Initially, beginners must keep the game simple.
