Different Strokes Star Gary Coleman Dies at 42

Different Strokes' child star Gary Coleman has passed away at the age of 42 due to brain hemorrhage.
Gary Coleman, or as we all know him as Arnold Jackson of Different Strokes passed away at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center due to brain hemorrhage. Coleman had a fall at his home in Santaquin, Utah, and was rushed to hospital in a conscious and lucid state. He slipped into a coma and was placed on life support. He passed away at 12:05 MDT (18:05 GMT).

The hit show Different Strokes was one of the most popular sitcom of the 80s, and ran from 1978 to 1985, first on NBC for 6 seasons and then on ABC for 2. Gary Coleman played a wisecracking kid with a coined catchphrase 'What you talking 'bout, Willis?' The show catapulted him to fame, and made Gary the most promising star of the 80s. But after it ended, Gary faded away rather quietly. Then he was tangled in a host of health and legal problems. He suffered from a kidney disease at an early age that stunted his growth to a height of 4 ft 8 in (1.4m), something that was always the center of jokes in the media. He also went through 2 failed kidney transplants. His spokesman, John Alcantar said in a statement, "We are very sad to have to report Mr. Gary Coleman has passed away. He was removed from life support; soon thereafter, he passed quickly and peacefully." John Alcantar also denied that the former star had gone through any surgery recently.

Gary sued his parents over mismanagement, and went on to win a $1.3 million settlement in 1993, though, in 1999 he filed for bankruptcy. He had a few problems with the law too and was charged with reckless driving and disorderly conduct. He even ran for governor of California in 2003.

R.I.P. Gary Coleman.
