Diet : Which Proteins To Lose Weight

Protein is a high value nutrient that is very important to our health, do not let them deceive you through this fact
Proteins are important category in our food, yet using them to lose weight is another issue. Protein should be present in our food for the following reasons:
  • To build muscles
  • To obtain amino acids which are the building bricks of bones, enzymes, some hormones, as well as muscles
  • To delay hunger feeling
The Institute of Medicine of the National Institute of Science (US) concluded that 10-35 % of our daily intake of calories should come from protein.

Using protein to lose weight should comply with the solid nutritional principles, and not like as we see what fad diets promote. Its importance should not be a cover for other harmful techniques, that may shed out the calories for a short time, but negatively affects people's health.

Now, which proteins you should avoid and which ones you stick to?

- Keep away from Jell-O and Ex-Lax protein diets:
Some fad diets contain some sort of incomplete proteins together with a laxative that is included as (a safe natural ingredient to help losing weight). Their instructions are "you simply drink a tablespoon of the formula before bed, sleep well and lose weight. You should not eat for 3 hours before you take it, and not again until the next day morning".

Covered with protein as a nutrient of high value, they cheat you to starve and deprive you of calories that may make you lose some pounds quickly, yet you can not keep on that way for good, does any one care? You already bought one!. You are overwhelmed with promotions of the type "Lose weight while sleeping", "Safe and effective protein diet"...etc, until you buy one. Do not make that mistake.

- Avoid the 100% Calorie/Protein diet:
In the 1970s, use of liquid protein was popularized as a weight loss aid and the result was, people died starving. You can not get 100% of calories from proteins alone, your body should receive all the nutrients it needs.

- Avoid High protein diet:
This is what the American Heart Association says in their website:
"The American Heart Association doesn't recommend high-protein diets for weight loss. Some of these diets restrict healthful foods that provide essential nutrients and don't provide the variety of foods needed to adequately meet nutritional needs. People who stay on these diets very long may not get enough vitamins and minerals and face other potential health risks".

- Good proteins you should stick to:
While Whey protein, Casein, Soy protein are good ones being of high biological value(BV), however we should consider other ingredients associated with them.
The solid rule is that fish, poultry, milk, and plant proteins are the best proteins you should think of.
