Dick Cheney Warns Obama Policies May Invite New Terrorist Attacks

In a lengthy interview given recently, former vice president Dick Cheney defended many of the policies of the Bush administration and warned that softening America's position may be dangerous.
Former vice president Dick Cheney is more convinced than ever that the Bush administration made the right moves with regards to its approach to terrorism, captured suspected terrorists, and surveillance. Many of the more controversial issues - Guantanamo, the Patriot Act - are slam dunk success stories in the mind of Cheney. And he has some evidence to support his claims. Since 9/11, there have been no major terrorist attacks on American soil. Whether or not actual attempts have been thwarted is uncertain to the public - but Cheney is quick to point that they have been and that the Bush administration's policies are to thank for it.

Cheney was measured when addressing Obama directly and steered clear of criticizing him specifically. But he noted that every administration takes office with a sense of optimism that diplomacy alone can keep America safe. He said that he brought that same optimism with him to the vice presidency, only to find out that there are people out there who only want to harm America - and diplomacy simply does not work with those people.

Cheney was very clear in his stance that he does not believe the remaining prisoners at Guantanamo Bay should be released. He views the remaining prisoners there as the truly hardened terrorists - those that would be most likely to return to terrorism immediately and to attempting attacks in America.

Cheney said that he fears a nuclear or biological attack on the United States is coming sooner rather than later. And he wants to let everyone know that the previous administration's policies on terrorism would make it very difficult for terrorists to succeed.
