Dibs 12
The final chapter of Dibs :(
Dating Jason has been great. He calls me every night at exactly 9 o’clock, even if he just left my house an hour ago, which is usually the case, seeing as how he comes over just about every day after school.
Paige has even stopped with all the threats and has actually apologized to me for the whole fake out make out scene with Jason. She did tell me that he hadn’t kissed her back, so I knew I made a good choice by forgiving him.
It hasn’t been the smoothest ride in the world, seeing as how we had a huge fight a few months ago about something stupid. He had lied to me about where he was going and I blew up at him, but turns out that he was buying me a necklace at some fancy store. I had felt so stupid, but I apologized and then we ended up making out on his couch. I still wear the necklace.
Molly ended up getting together with Kevin, but for Kelsey, she’s not doing so great on the dating market. She’s been asked out by about five guys, and she turned down all but one. He had ended up cheating on her so now she’s promised herself that she will become a nun when high school is over. I highly doubt that seeing as how last time we had a party at Jason’s, I caught her making out with Seth in the coat closet.
I was in my room, reading a book, when I heard someone knock on my bedroom window. I hopped off of my bed, walked over to my only window, and when I pulled back the curtains, I saw Jason standing there with a big smile plastered on his face.
He was known to do this every time he came over and saw Dean’s car in the driveway. Dean has been overprotective of me ever since Kelly had caught us that first time. He gets furious whenever he catches Jason and me together.
Kelly on the other hand, occasionally gave us some privacy. She was only over protective because she had caught us making out on my bed and Jason hadn’t had his shirt on. She never believed that it had just gotten really hot in the room. Which it had.
I smiled and then lifted the latch on the window and pulled it up. He climbed in and after giving him a long welcoming kiss I asked him, "Dean’s here?"
He rolled his eyes and said, "Just pulled into the driveway. I have to tell you, the guy has incredible timing."
Anytime Dean came over, he would stop by my room and say ‘hey’. I frowned and said, "If he just got here, then that means…"
I was cut short when I heard the sound of my bedroom door opening. Jason tried to jump behind my bed and hide, but Dean had already caught him.
"Hey Olivia…hey Jason," he said furiously.
Jason stood up and then came beside me. He said calmly, "Hey Dean. How’s it going?"
Dean called my sister in from the den and she walked in. She looked surprised to see Jason there, but then a weird look appeared across her face. "What’s wrong Dean?"
"Jason and Olivia are alone in her room," he said and then glared at Jason.
Kelly said, "I know, Dean. They were using her bathroom to get washed up for dinner."
She then shot a look at me that told me I owed her. I so did. I breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Calm down, Dean. We weren’t doing anything."
"Then why was the door closed?" he demanded.
I couldn’t come with a lie quick enough, so I shot a pleading look at Kelly. She sighed and said, "The house is unleveled. The doors close by themselves all the time."
"No they don’t," he said, sneering.
She grabbed his arm and then pulled him out of the room saying, "You’re not her father, Dean. She’s a big girl."
I sighed and then plopped down on my bed. Jason smiled and said, "Remind me to do something nice for your sister and soon."
I laughed and said, "Ditto. Dean is so overprotective. He needs to go to counseling or something."
He chuckled and was about to pull me up and kiss me, but then Kelly walked in. She said, "Jason you’re staying for dinner, but you leave after that. I need to talk to Olivia."
Jason said, "Um…can I stay a little bit later? We’ll stay in the den or somewhere you can see us. I need to talk to her." I threw a glance at him and he looked almost uncomfortable. Kind of pained.
She sighed and said, "Fine. But you two owe me."
We nodded and then she walked out, leaving the door open behind her. I asked Jason, "What do you need to talk to me about?"
"I’ll tell you later," he said seriously and then pulled me up by my hand. He brought me close to him and then started kissing me. The way he kissed me kind of scared me. They seemed urgent, like we didn’t have a lot of time left together. Was he going to break up with me? When his lips moved to that special spot on my neck, I forgot about all of my questions. I could only think of him and how I never wanted to let go of him.
I glanced over towards the door and realized that it was still open. Dean would kill me if he saw what we were getting up to in here, so I pulled away from Jason and then closed the door. He smiled wickedly at me and then we fell onto my bed, kissing the entire time.
I rolled on top of him and started kissing every piece of visible skin as he kissed me all over my neck. I felt like I was on air. I reached towards the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head.
He smiled seductively at me and then kissed me again. I felt his breath, hot on my mouth, as he moved to my shirt. He had gotten to the last button when we heard a loud single knock on my door. I jumped and then started panicking. I buttoned my shirt back up and adjusted my shorts. Jason had put his shirt back on and smoothed his hair down and then we walked out of my room.
When we sat down at the table, Dean asked, "Unstable floors close your bedroom door again?"
Kelly walked over to him and smacked him on the head with the big wooden spoon. "Hey!" he argued.
She said, "Stop being such an overprotective fool! Olivia’s got a good head on her shoulders."
"What about the boy?" he argued.
"He’s a good guy, unlike you, so shut up and eat your freaking potatoes," she argued back. She then sat in the chair next to him and started eating.
Jason and I both held back our laughter as Dean huffed and then stuffed his fork into his potato.
When Jason and I were finished eating, he looked upset. I think Kelly noticed too, because she pulled Dean away from the table and into her room. I didn’t want to think about what they could be up to; I couldn’t have if I wanted to anyway. The look on Jason’s face was almost unbearable to look at.
He grabbed my hand and then pulled me to the couch and placed me on his lap. I wrapped my arms around his neck and asked, "What’s wrong? You don’t look too good."
He looked up at me and said, "I’m really sorry, Olivia."
Panic and sadness washed through me. "What happened? Why are you sorry?"
He blinked and then looked at the ground. He said, "My dad got a new job. A really good one. He’s making more money now."
"Well that’s great!" I exclaimed. "Why are you sorry about that?"
"It’s…his job it’s…it’s five hours away."
"That’s a long commute for him," I said, smiling, thinking that I was missing something. Why would he be so sorry about that?
"No, it’s not. Olivia, we’re moving."
"Moving where?" I asked blankly.
He picked up my face with his hand and said, "Me, Molly, my mom and my dad. We are all moving seven hours away."
His breath surrounded my face as he gazed into my eyes and I was finding it hard to think. I just wanted him to kiss me like he had earlier. Without the whole urgency part.
"Can you repeat that? I wasn’t paying attention," I said, smiling up at him.
"Olivia, I don’t like saying this, okay? Listen this time."
I nodded and then he continued, "This is the last time I can see you."
"What?" I cried as my heart and stomach plummeted, "Why?"
He closed his eyes and said, "We’re moving."
"No!" I cried once more. This couldn’t be true. He wasn’t moving. He couldn’t be. He belonged here, with me.
"Yes," he said and then nodded.
"Why are you okay with this?" I demanded.
"I’m not okay with it, Olivia. I’m really not, but I have no choice."
"Yes you do!" I said nodding, "Move in with me. Dean might have a problem with it, but screw him!"
"I can’t do that. What about Molly and my parents?"
"Molly can move in too! You can both take the computer room. It’s a pull out couch! Come on, please. You say all the time that you don’t like your parents."
"That sounds great; Olivia, but they wouldn’t let me."
"Can’t you ask them?" I cried out. Did he not want to live with me or something?
He said, "I’ve already asked them for all the options that keep me here. There are none."
I removed my arms from his neck and wrapped them around his waist. I held on tight and cried out, "But you can’t go!"
"I have to," he said frowning and kissing my forehead.
"But you said you loved me! You can’t just leave!" I said, tears falling down my cheeks.
He wiped them away with his thumb and kissed my cheek. He repeated, looking in my eyes, "I have to."
"No!" I cried, burying my face in his chest. I felt so helpless and pathetic.
He tightened his grip around me and said, "I need to leave. I have to pack."
I pulled back and yelled at him, "Fine! Just leave then! I don’t want you anymore!"
Pain surfaced on his face as he said, "Baby, please don’t be like this."
"I’ll be however the hell I want to be! Now leave!" I yelled, standing up and pointing towards the door.
Dean stormed out of my sister’s room and asked, "What the hell is going on here?"
I glared at Jason and said, "Jason was just leaving."
Jason looked at me with pleading eyes and said, "Please, Olivia."
I ran over to Dean and hugged him tight. I hid my face in his flat stomach and when I heard the front door slam shut, I started sobbing. Dean yelled, "Kelly! Get in here!"
She appeared in the doorway and asked, "Olivia? What’s wrong?"
I ran over to her and threw my arms around her. I said, "He’s…he’s gone."
She hugged me tight and muttered, "Oh, no."
I nodded and said, "He just left! He didn’t want me anymore."
Dean said, "I’m going to kill the bastard."
Kelly pulled back and looked at me with disbelief written across her face. "Did he actually say that he didn’t want you any more? He seems to love you so much."
I shook my head and said, "But he didn’t want to move in with us and he was so calm about it and…he’s…he just left!"
The tears started coming and they just wouldn’t stop. I was soaking her pajama shirt, but I could care less. She asked, "Are they moving or something?"
I nodded against her stomach. But they couldn’t be. They just couldn’t be.
Dean muttered, "Shit."
Kelly said, "You need to see him again before he leaves. You can’t just end things like this."
"But it’s over. He’s moving seven hours away! I’ll never be able to see him again!"
"When’s he leaving?"
"I don’t know, he never told me. He just said this was the last time he could see me."
She told me, "Call him and tell him to come back over. You need to talk to him."
It took some convincing, but I finally decided to call him. I walked slowly to my room and then picked up my cell phone. I dialed his number shaking and when he answered he sounded mad. "What do you want?"
I started crying again, "Can you please come over? I want to see you."
"What? So you can yell at me some more and just kick me out again?"
"Stop it, Jason," I begged, "I’m sorry, okay? Just, please. Please come over. I need to see you before you go."
He said, "I’ll be there in five minutes. Meet me outside," and then hung up.
I slipped on some shoes and then walked outside. The moon was being hidden by rain clouds, which you could barely see against the dark night sky. I heard crickets chirping far away and there was a big breeze that seemed to keep sweeping through.
I then heard his car pull up. I wiped under my eyes to make sure that no water was there and I smiled weakly at him when he sat down next to me on the grass. I said, "I’m sorry about earlier. I was just upset…and I’m going to miss you so much."
He scooted closer to me and slipped his arm around my waist. He said, "I’m going to miss you too. You don’t know how hard this is. I’m grounded for cursing out my parents because of it." I smiled weakly at him and then kissed him on the lips and I felt the emotion in it. He too, was afraid of leaving. It didn’t get too passionate, but when we pulled back, I felt that it was the best kiss ever.
He said, "I’m going to miss you too, but college is in just a little over a year. I will come down here for school. And I’ll call you so much that you’ll get sick of me."
"I’ll never get sick of you calling. You promise?" I asked, leaning my forehead against his and biting my lower lip.
He gave me a soft peck on the lips and said, "I promise."
We sat on the grass, kissing and hugging for about an hour. I never wanted to let go. By the way his arms had been crushing me to him all night, I think he never wanted to let go either. Around eleven, he got a call on his cell phone and then turned to me and said, "I have to go."
I nodded and then painfully said, "Okay."
He stood up and then pulled me to my feet. He wrapped his arms tightly around me and gave me one last kiss. I felt tears slowly making their way to the surface. He pulled back and said, "I love you, I always will."
"I love you too," I said, my voice cracking at the end.
He kissed me on the cheek and then walked over to his car. Then after what seemed like way too fast, he drove away, leaving me at home, without him. Maybe, just maybe, I would see him again. I sure hoped so. He did promise.
