Diamond Pendants

Some helpful advice for anyone thinking about purchasing a diamond pendant.
Diamond Pendants
Diamond pendants are by far one of the most ideal jewelery gifts to buy for a loved one. Capturing the eternal nature of the diamond, symbolic of everlasting love, the diamond pendant is a must have accessory to complement the diamond engagement ring. Worn on a secure yet understated chain, the diamond will catch the light throwing off the fire that is so typical of a well cut diamond. The beauty with diamond pendants is that they can be purchased with no knowledge of a specific size being required, unlike a ring. As long as the chain length is suitable (often 18" or 20" in length) the pendant is a very easy piece of jewelery to buy. The only other thing to decide upon is the diamond itself, along with the design and type of metal required.

If it is a solitaire diamond pendant (a single stone) most of the budget will go on the actual diamond. There are many styles available including the round brilliant cut diamond solitaire and the princess cut diamond solitaire. Both are popular styles and are available in pretty much any size, allowing for a wide range of budgets. The carat weight, cut, color and clarity (also known as the four C’s) will determine just how expensive the particular diamond is. With new innovations in diamond jewelery, it is also possible to incorporate fancy colored diamonds into a pendant of this type, many enhanced versions being much more affordable than the rare natural fancy colored versions.

The design of the pendant is one we shall look at shortly. The metal itself can be anything ranging from 9ct white, yellow and rose gold, to 18ct gold and even platinum. A mixture of these metals can also add diversity to jewelery of a particular color, such as in the case of 18ct white and yellow gold. In terms of design, some pendants can present the illusion of a much larger diamond. Innovative designs of diamond clusters present the appearance of a solitaire diamond. These are also available in pear shaped designs, oval designs and even drop shaped designs.

For those wishing to keep things simple, but with more than one diamond, the 3 stone diamond pendants provide a perfect style. Also called Trilogy diamond pendants, the diamonds can graduate in size or be of equal size. They may also be claw held, channel set, or be held within rub-over or bezel settings. Such a pendant is ideal for the birth of a first child, or for a 3rd wedding anniversary, playing on the significance of the number 3.

Always buy from a reputable source and find out exactly what quality of diamonds you are being sold. For a list of jewelers, the British jewelers Association provides a list of members, many of which will specialize in diamond pendants. Also, never be afraid to inquire and discuss your requirements before you purchase. Information is free and it is always wise to do your research before you buy.
