Diamond Clarity

Diamonds are the precious possessions and Diamond Clarity is one of those "C" to evaluate its preciousness. The Clarity of Diamond indicates the measure of extent and number of the flaws present in that specific diamond. Let us explore the grading system based on the diamond clarity…
Diamond Clarity
Defined as a "Women’s Best Friend", Diamond can convey emotions to a person without having said anything. Diamond can bring tears to the eyes of a woman and make her do anything for you. It is a beautiful moment when you propose your girl friend by giving her a beautiful diamond ring.

You want that moment to be perfect. Simultaneously, the diamond in the ring should be perfect too. How would you have known that the diamond is flawless? Diamond clarity helps you in finding that. Diamond Clarity indicates the measure of extent and number of flaws in a diamond. Value of a diamond depends on the diamond clarity. Flawless Diamonds are very meager. The amount of "FL" or Flawless diamond produced per year ranges around few hundreds.

Grading System for Diamond Clarity
Diamond Clarity Grading Systems are spread across the globe for determining diamond clarity. G.I.A (Gemological Institute of America) scale is the most popular of all the Diamond Clarity Grading Systems around the world. G.I.A. ranks the diamond in different categories;

FL (Flawless) & IL (Internally Flawless) - They come in the category where the diamond is considered flawless. Flawless categories have no defects on the body or in its internal areas. Flawless diamonds are beautiful gems. Internally Flawless gems have blemishes of insignificance inside its structure. These flaws are only visible under a 10X-magnified instrument.

VVS1 & VVS2 (Very Very slightly included) - The diamonds in this rating have very precise and slight flaws in them. VVS diamonds have excellent qualities with blemishes are visible with great trouble under 10 X-magnified instruments.

VS1 & VS2 (Very slightly included) - The diamonds ranked VS have flaws more than VVS category. 10 X-magnified instruments after a constant watch of at least 10 seconds can detect blemishes in these diamonds.

SI1 & SI2 (Slightly Imperfect) -These diamonds are slightly imperfect than the above-mentioned ones. Flaws are easily detectable under a 10X-magnified instrument. However, naked eye finds difficulty in viewing the blemishes.

I1, I2 & I3 (Imperfect): These diamonds are imperfect and have many flaws in them. The blemishes might be visible with the naked eye. ‘I’ Diamonds have their brilliance affected by the Blemishes.

Categories of Flaws
The blemishes or the flaws can be acquainted by looking at different diamonds and can be categorized as:
Pinpoint: Pinpoints are small dots of white color on the body of the diamond. Pinpoints are very rarely perceived in a diamond.

Carbons: Carbons are small dots of black color on the outer boundary of the diamond. These flaws are rare in diamond. They are comparatively perceived in lesser diamonds than pinpoints.

Feathers: Feathers are little cracks inside of the stone and give similar appearance to that of glass that is broken. Little feathers within a diamond cause no harm (only the rating of diamond clarity is lowered). However, feathers larger are harmful as the fissures grow with the aging of the diamond.

Clouds: Little crystals are tough to be viewed individually from naked eye form a cloud like area in the interior of the diamond.

Crystal Growth: A growth of a small structure of crystalline nature takes place inside the diamond giving the resemblance of a diamond inside a diamond. It gives a wonderful sight. However, it can affect the life of the diamond.

Accept suggestions on Diamond Clarity
A consumer is very selective about choosing a diamond and wants a rating in diamond clarity to be very high. However, it is very tough for inexperienced purchasers to judge the diamond clarity of the diamond even if they are provided with the proper instruments. Inexperienced purchasers should look at varieties of diamonds before deciding on one. This way, they can have an idea of what a diamond with a better diamond clarity will be. Good jewelers provide ample time and even assist you in judging the diamond if they asked of. Purchasers should go ahead and confirm the appearance of the flaws from the jewelers and get prepared for the next purchase.

Clarity-Enhanced Diamonds
Nowadays, purchases of diamond require even more attention for the availability of a new category of diamond having their diamond clarity enhanced by artificial processes. Clarity enhancing is a procedure used by jewelers to remove the little blemishes of a relatively good diamond. "Clarity-Enhanced" diamonds give a flawless appearance. It is almost impossible to trace any kind of enhancement done on these stones. However, the price of the enhanced version is comparable to a flawed one. Simultaneously, if compared to a pure diamond, durability of the enhanced version is not even close.

Purchasers should confirm the purity of the product with the jeweler. G.I.A. certification is given to diamonds that are pure and are not the enhanced version. When purchasing a diamond without G.I.A. certificate you should ask for a written proof from the jeweler for the diamonds purity on the bill of the purchase. Buy a flawless dream for someone whom you care!
