Chapter 2
Maddox Hunter. Maddox Hunter. My breathing stopped. My heart felt like it had just shattered all over again. I couldn’t move or breathe. I was frozen. My whole body was screaming at me to run, afraid of what I might see but my brain wouldn’t function. All thoughts were frozen and then I saw him. His beautiful black hair gelled back. I remembered the times that I used to run my hand through it. His piercing blue eyes scanning the room. I remember when I looked deeply into them just getting lost for hours and hours. Those big arms of his placed formally in front of his body. I remember when they used to wrap around my body. I could feel myself about to brake down. I needed to get out of that room.
"Sadie? Sadie? Are you okay?" Reggie whispered in my ear, "Oh god. Corrine we have to get her out of here now." Reggie whispered to her. Luckily they both understood. As they were about to pull me to the door I heard it.
"Good morning everyone. I just have to say that it is an honor to be able to come here and work in such an amazing place like this." That sexy, husky voice of his, I remember how he used to persuade me to do the most stupid things by whispering seductively into my ear like that. Oh god. I can feel it coming. The tears are starting to well in my eyes.
"I know that most of you will probably be scared about having a new boss but I can assure you that I there is nothing to be scared of. I will try my hardest to run this magazine the way Marta has. I would like to come around and get to know everyone who is working here so if you don’t mind I would like to have at least a five minute chat with the heads of each department. I think that I might start with…the fashion department."
I sucked in a breath. No. No. NO! NO! NO! NO! He can’t come. He can’t.
"That will be all." He said dismissively. Suddenly the whole office erupted with loud talking. I couldn’t be there one second longer. I ran out of the office as quickly as I could and made my way to the elevator. I pressed the button and continued to keep pressing it. STUPID ELEVATOR! HURRY UP! I felt like yelling.
"Sadie? Sadie sweetheart. Are you okay?" Reggie asked. The elevator doors popped open then and I practically sprinted into them. I pressed the button for our floor. Corrine, Reggie and Ingrid were all looking at me, waiting for me to say something. I couldn’t speak yet. I began walking back and forth. I could feel the tears streaming down my face. The elevator doors opened with a ping sound and I ran to my office. I began to sob endlessly. I kicked off my shoes and sat in the corner of the room.
"Oh god, Sadie." Corrine said. They all walked over to me and sat down.
"It’s going to be okay sweetie." Ingrid kept on repeating.
"Why is he here? Why is he here? He knew I would of worked here. Why?! WHY!?" I was screaming more at myself.
"I don’t know sweetie. All I know is that he is going to be down here any minute and I think we should probably get you cleaned up."
"What? No I can’t face him! I can’t! Please don’t make me, please!"
"You will have to do it sooner or later Sadie, he is our boss now." Reggie said softly.
"Oh god! Why!" I put my face in my hands. I started to hyperventilate.
"Oh god what is happening to her?" Ingrid asked concern written all over her voice.
"I think it’s a panic attack." Reggie said.
"Well someone get her a paper bag!" Corrine yelled.
"I’m on it." Ingrid got up and less than a second later she had a paper bag in her hands. I grabbed it off her and started to breath into it. I was helping a little. The phone started to go off and we all jumped. Ingrid got up and answered it.
"Hello Fashion department, Ingrid speaking…Oh ah yes she is…I don’t think it would be a good time…oh okay sir…sure…goodbye." I wonder who that was. I thought to myself.
"That was Mr. Hunter. He said he would be down in ten minutes to see Sadie."
My heart started to beat a thousand beats per minute with fear.
"I can’t. I can’t do this. I just…can’t."
"Now you listen to me Sadie Cleaver. You are strong, independent women. You have gotten your life together after suffering the most severe punishment. That is something that most people wouldn’t be able to do. You are not going to let this guy come back into your life and control you again. You are going to stand strong in front of him and say I am Sadie Cleaver, head women of the fashion department. Do you understand me?"
"Y-yes." I stuttered.
"Good. Now we really have to get you cleaned up and looking gorgeous."
He picked me up and sat me down on my desk chair. Corrine came over with her make up bag and pulled out the dark blue eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner. She began to apply the make up and when I looked in the mirror my puffy eyes looked hidden. God I love that girl.
"Thank you guys so much but now you have to promise me that you will stay or I will kill you all, go it?" I said half jokingly. But seriously as well cause I so did not want to talk to him alone.
"We won’t leave you Sadie. Promise!" They all said. I smiled at them.
Then suddenly we heard footsteps heading towards us. I didn’t look up through the plain glass doors. I instead turned my chair to face the city. I looked up slowly and saw him, well his reflection actually in the window. He looked so gorgeous but he also looked so nervous. I could see him flexing his hand near his leg. He always did that when he was nervous. I’m happy that I’m not the only one who is nervous. My breathing was still rapid and I tried to calm it.
"Good morning sir. It’s a pleasure to meet you." Reggie said. I could see him offering his hand to Maddox but he didn’t take it. Instead he was looking at the chair. Well at least he couldn’t see my reflection in the window.
Reggie cleared his throat. "Sir?" That seemed to snap him out of his retrieve.
"Oh…ah…right. Your name is?" He said taking the hand.
"My name is Reginald but everyone calls me Reggie. That is Corrine and Ingrid and this is-"
"Sadie." He barely whispered. The way he said my name made my heart feel nothing but pain and hope at the same time but I pushed the hope deep down inside me and just let the pain consume me. Everything he had every done to me. I kept on replaying the moment he left me and now nothing but complete and utter hatred for the man seeped through my body. I slowly stood up and turned to face him. His face looked so warm and happy. I felt my face soften for a split second then replaced it with a cold hard glare.
"Its nice to meet you Mr. Hunter." I said.
"Sadie come on, you don’t have to call me that." He said with a small smile on his face.
"What else would you like me to call you sir?" Suddenly his posture turned formal.
"Never mind. I would like to have a chat with you. You know to get to know the company and people I will be working with better." Even though his posture was formal his voice was warm and soft.
"Well how about you talk to my team. I am very busy at the moment so-"
"I think you can spear five minutes with your boss and besides I need to have a one on one chat with the head of all the departments." I looked at him for a split second then nodded to the others for them to leave and they did, closing the doors behind them. I sat back down in my chair and Maddox sat opposite me. He didn’t say anything. He just stared at me. I couldn’t hold the glaring anymore and sighed.
"What do you want to talk about sir?"
"Sadie please call me Maddox." There it was again. Hope and once again I squashed right into the ground.
"I believe that it would be very informal sir. So please I ask again what is it you want to talk about?" I said as icily as I could.
"Well how about you? How have you been?"
"Fantastic." I said sarcastically.
"Oh, well…that’s good…I guess. So…um…you work here now, head of department that’s amazing Sadie. I never thought you would become a fashion major."
"Well I guess you didn’t really know me did you?"
"Of course I know you Sadie. I know you backwards and forward."
"Really? Huh…so I guess you can tell how much I don’t want to speak to you."
"Yeah I kind of get that."
"Then why are you still here?" I shot back at him. He winced.
"Because I want to see you Sadie. Know how you’re going. What you have been up to. If you’re…dating." He said the last part so quietly I strained my ears to hear it. And when I did. Oh boy!
"WHY IN GOD’S EARTH WOULD YOU CARE WHETHER I’M DATING OR NOT! DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THAT YOU CAN COME BACK INTO MY LIFE AFTER FOUR YEARS AND EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY! AFTER YOU LEFT ME! I CRIED FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS OVER YOU AND YOU EXPECT ME TO PUT MYSELF THROUGH THAT AGAIN! AND NOW, WHEN YOU FUCK ANYTHING THAT WALKS! YOU HONESTLY EXPECT ME TO FALL INTO YOUR ARMS AGAIN!" I scream at him.
He stands up now, pissed written all over his face.
"Now you listen to me Sadie. I am still your boss and if you ever speak to me like that again I will fire you!" He shot back. His hands were balled into fists and I felt scared but not enough to back down.
"Oh so now you pull out the boss card? After you ask me whether I’m dating anyone or not?! You know what I don’t care if you fire me! I would rather be fired then have to spend every day looking at you! I hate you more than anything in this world and I wish that you were never born because I could have saved my heart for someone who wouldn’t of crushed it!" I yelled at him. I couldn’t stay there anymore. I grabbed my bag and rushed out of there as quickly as possible. Luckily the elevator was there so I made a quick exit. I felt endless tears fall from my eyes. I had just finally got my life back on track and he comes along and ruins it all over again. Seeing him brought up so many emotions for me but the worst part is that they all hit me like a truck, all at the same time. Happy, angry, sad, confused, heartache but the one that hurt the most out of all of them was the emotion that can make you feel so happy one day and break you then next….love. I still felt love for him. I wanted to grab him and pull him around me and not let go. He meant so much to me and seeing him again just proves how much he still means to me. I walked all the way home, which I might add, was the longest walk of my life but I didn’t care. I wanted to be somewhere that was safe, safe from the world, from life.
I got home and ran straight up the stairs to my room. I undressed as quickly as possible and threw on my sweats and a t-shirt. I took off all the make up that was still on and then climbed into my big warm bed. I started to cry to hard, harder than I have in a long time.

(((Tate’s POV)))
I parked my car outside the building waiting for Sadie to come rushing in and telling me about her day like she always did. It was funny because nothing could ruin her day for her. She was always smiling about something. Five minutes had passed and I was getting restless. Sadie was always on time. Ten minutes passed and I couldn’t sit here anymore. I turned off the engine and got out the car. I remember the day I got this car. Sadie was beaming when she found out I was going to get a new one. Of course I was useless when it came to then so she insisted on taking me and she made my bye this one. At first I did it because it made her happy but when I got used to it I grew to love it as well. I pressed the elevator number and went to her floor. I walked out to be greeted by Ingrid.
"Oh hey Tate. How are you?"
"Good. Is Sadie here?"
"She didn’t call you?"
"No. Did something happen?" I asked nervously.
"Look Tate I’m not one to say. I think you should go home. You’ll find Sadie there."
I started to panic. What was wrong? Sadie never did anything like this! I ran back over to the elevator and pressed the button. I had to get to Sadie. The doors flew open and I looked up. My eyes widened. I saw him. The guy who I have wanted to kill ever since Sadie began to see me. Maddox Hunter. He is here and that can only mean one thing. He came to see Sadie. No wonder she isn’t here. She must be so…I can’t even think about. I stepped in the elevator. Anger was pouring out of me. I clenched my fists as hard as I could to stop from punching the guy. What I would give-PING! The doors opened to the lower ground. I basically ran out of there. I knew that if I were to stay even a minute longer I would have punched him so hard. But I can’t…well not yet anyway. I had to get home to Sadie. She is my only priority.
I was home in twenty minutes. I rushed up as quickly as possible and slide the door open.
"SADIE!" I yelled. If anything has happened to her so help me god- "SADIE!" I yell again. Still nothing. I run up the stairs as quickly as possible and swing open the door to her room. I look around and don’t see her. I hear the shower running though. The door is a little cracked. I know I shouldn’t walk into bathrooms when people are having showers but I needed know she was still alive.
I saw her standing in the shower. She had her bra and underwear on but she was just standing there. Not moving. Her face was blank. She looked so broken. I knew the impact that Maddox had on her but I never knew it was this bad. I walk over to the shower.
"Sadie?" I whisper.
"He’s back Tate. He’s back." She said. She burst out crying, harder than ever. I quickly took my shoes off and my jacket. I stepped into the shower, not caring wether I will get wet. I pulled her into my arms and held her. She began to sob into my shirt and I held her even tighter. We slowly made our way to the floor. I pulled her into my lap and I felt her grip tighten around my neck. The water was cold but it didn’t matter. All I cared about was the girl in my lap. I needed her to feel better. Seeing her like this breaks my heart more than she will ever know.
After a while I pick her up. I turn off the shower and pull her into my arms, bridal style. I step out of the shower and slowly set her down on the sink top. I grab a towel and start to dry her. I quickly go and grab a new pair of underwear and her bra, as well as her short black pj shorts and a t-shirt, and bring them back.
"Sadie you have to get dressed now okay." She nods her head. "I’ll be back as fast as I can. I promise." Again she nods her head.
I leave her to get dressed and rush to my room. I grab a towel out of my bathroom and quickly dry myself, grabbing my pair of sweats and a shirt. I change quickly and run back to her room. She is sitting on the ground, leaning against the bed. I slowly walk over to her. Her eyes are shut. She looks so tired. I scoop her up gently and place her on the bed. I slowly pull the covers over her. Just as I’m about to leave I feel her hands on my arm.
"Tate, please don’t leave me." I could see tears start to fall. "I need you."
That was all it took for me. I slid in next to her and pulled the covers over us. I pulled her against me, my arms securing tightly around her body. The warmth radiating out of her made me hug her even more. I felt her arms grab mine and pull them tighter. We were so close together that neither of us wanted to move. She needed me and I would not make the mistake Maddox did. I will not leave her. Ever.
