Devilish Revenge
Kerala the small state lying along the south west border of India is famous for its Magical rituals called Thantrik rituals. Here is a story of the fate of a thantrik who used his knowledge in the rituals to avenge his father's death.
Kerala a small state situated in the south west border of India is rich with its own Tanthrik culture and sorcerers who were experts in taming wandering souls and evil spirits with their super natural powers.
There lived a man who was a scholar but more interested in enjoying the life with all the physical pleasures. Once he went to a far of place to participate in a country festival. This village where the festival has been conducted was around two hundred miles away from his native village.
On those days there were no vehicles and people used to go by walk. They will start a week before and keep on walking in the morning and by the darkness gets thicker they used to take shelter in any temples or nearby houses. This man too started a week before the festival. He was accompanied by a friend .After two or three days journey they reached a desolate place. Time was too late. Still they decided to continue their journey as there was no sign of temples or houses in the nearby area. Though tired and hungry they continue walking. Suddenly two young ladies have appeared there. They were really cute and wearing silk dresses and gold ornaments. With a seductive smile those young beauties came to them and asked in a soft voice
"Hey men, where are you going? Don't you know this is a dangerous area? Usually nobody will pass through this route after the dusk."
Though tired and hungry, the smile and the affectionate voice of the ladies tempted them. They told.
"We are coming from a far away place. By the time we reached here it was too late. No houses are there in the visibility and we did not have our dinner too. We are tired. And hungry too."
"Ok". One of the ladies replied with a smile. "If you don't mind you can have dinner at our house. It is very near."
"And..." Another one continued with a tempting smile. "If you are not in hurry to move, you can take rest too for the entire night."
More than the food and shelter, the company of two beautiful young ladies made them to take a decision without thinking much. They went along with them. After few minutes they reached a big bungalow. Three ladies who seem to be the maid servants came out and took some instructions from the two young ladies and went back. As the maids went inside one lady directed the men towards bath room. After taking bath both the men sat for dinner. Sweet ladies came there with a variety of dishes and served them with love and care. They never felt ashamed to crack some sexy jokes in between too. Both the men were so happy that they really took it as a blessing to be there in that lonely area at that late time. So they be able to enjoy nice food and company of two beauties. After the dinner both the men were taken to different bedrooms by the two beauties. The coat and the bedroom walls were decorated with flowers and golden articles. Various fruits were kept in a silver bowl on a table near the bed. Two men were really in cloud nine.
As the lights went off in one room the young lady changed her shape. Well decorated hair have fallen down and started spreading over her face. One tooth each from both ends of the lips came out. With a boisterous laugh she bowed her face towards the man with her. Suddenly he realized that they have got cheated. These ladies are not human beings but fairy women with evil spirit. But it was too late then as her case neared his she inserted her extended teeth into his neck and started sucking blood.
At the same time in the other room his friend was inviting the lady to sit beside him. But she was not ready. She asked him in turn to remove the book he kept beneath his pillow. He was a staunch devotee of Goddess Durga and it was his habit to chant "Lalitha sahsranama" or the holy thousand names Goddess Durga every day in the early morning. So he used to keep a book of that always with him and keep under his pillow when he sleeps. Because of the power of" Lalitha sahasranama" the yakshi was not able to go near him, leave alone killing and sucking blood. As she continued pressurizing him to remove the book he developed some doubts.
At the same time he heard strange noises from the adjoining room which resembles the sound of crushing bones. Suddenly he realized the situation. He understood the fact that they were not ladies as they thought but fairies and the one went inside the room with his friend has already killed him and now chewing his bones. Trembled in a blood clotting fear he kept on chanting different holy rhymes of Goddess Durga till he fell asleep. Next day morning when he woke up he saw no bungalow there. Instead just two tall palm trees were there Now he understood everything clearly. The bungalow, servants, food and all were just an illusion created by their magical power and they killed his friend.
Sad on the demise of his friend and shocked over the whole incidents that happened in the previous night he decided to return to his home. There he went to his friend's house and narrated the whole incident. Though it was a shock to wife of the deceased who was pregnant at that time and cursed the fate for making her a widow at such a younger age, she slowly adjusted herself to the situation and later gave birth to a boy child.
As per the prevailing customs of that time the boy got his education and other things as he grew up. And when he became around fourteen years he came to know about his father's death at the hands of a fairy woman from his mother.
Then he decided to kill that evil-spirited lady and started learning sorcery and connected rituals to get the strength for achieving his goal. Besides he started penance too to please the "Sun God". Years after the continuous penance Sun appeared in front of him disguised as an old saint and advised him some divine hymns which will give him magical powers. Besides he provided him with a text of different hymns and rituals which he can refer clear his doubts. He started learning those hymns and rituals and practiced at various places for different purposes. Being successful in all the efforts he got confidence and decided to start his work to fulfill his revenge. He decided to perform a sacrifice where Ghee and other holy things will be offered to a holy fire along with chanting hymns and holy spells. As the ritual progressed all the fairies were dragged to the spot with the magical power of the hymns. He asked every one to reveal who had killed his father. All denied doing the same. Then he ordered them to took pledge on the holy fire and repeat the same.
All but one did the same. The sorcerer asked the fairy who was not ready to pledge on fire about the reason. Knowing the punishment she is going to get if she took a false pledge on holy fire and fearing the magical powers of the hymns she confessed that it was she who killed his father and requested to pardon her. But mad with anger and vengeful thought he was not in a mood to listen her words. He dragged her with the magical powers and sacrificed in the holy fire. Just before dying she cursed him that he will die within forty one days due to suffocation.
After some days of this incident the king who was ruling the country then has sent an emissary to him. The problem was with the queen. One wandering male spirit had entered her body and she started behaving unnaturally. More over the pregnancies are getting aborted regularly. So the king needed the help of a sorcerer to oust the spirit from his wife's body. He agreed and went to the King's palace.
After examining the patient he prescribed certain materials to perform his rituals. By evening King made everything ready and the ritual and sacrifice started. The rituals started with drawing certain geometrical figures with natural colors like tamarind powder for yellow color rice powder for white color, coal powder for black. Then he made a tank using bricks at the center of this geometrical structure and filled it with wood pieces and coconut shells and lit the fire. The sorcerer sat on one side of the tank known as "HOMAKUNDAM" and the queen who is affected with evil spirits made to sit on the other side. Muttering the holy hymns the sorcerer offered ghee and flowers to the holy fire in "HOMAKUNDAM".
But even trying the most powerful hymns the spirit who has entered in queen's body was reluctant to leave it. This made him angry as it hurt his ego too. Though he never did the sacrifice of living things earlier, here as a last resort the sorcerer was ready to do that also. He spread a plain cloth dipped in ghee on the floor. Lot of ants came over the cloth and he put the entire cloth with ants in the holy fire. When the sorcerer started most cruel methods like this the spirit could not bear the heat on him. He offered to speak out.
Then the sorcerer asked who he is. As the reply the spirit told him that he was the husband of the fairy woman whom the sorcerer killed. Now he has no other way to satisfy his sexual desire and when he saw this cute queen he entered her for pleasure. Now it is not possible for him to leave her body as he loved her body so much. But the sorcerer was not in a mood to listen his arguments. He told him that he has promised the king that he will remove the spirit from queen's body and he had to keep up his promise. With the power of his hymns and rituals he dragged the spirit out and sacrificed in the holy fire. Before dying the spirit too cursed him.
"First you killed my wife and took away my pleasures. Now you are taking me out from the body ofa woman whom I loved so much and killing me. Definitely within seven days you will die of urine blockade."
Though he got the curse he was successful in driving out the evil spirit from the queen. The king became happy and gave him a lot of gifts and money.
Knowing that the forty first day mentioned in the curse of the lady spirit and the seventh day mentioned in her husband's curse falls on the same day the sorcerer got worried and decided to went to a temple and spend the remaining time praying to god. The day before he reaches at the temple the devotees who were there to attend the daily rituals heard a voice from the sky telling that there will be an unnatural death in the temple premises tomorrow and the temple should be closed by afternoon and all should vacate the place by that time.
As decided earlier the sorcerer came to the temple. As the temple was closed he thought of having a bath in the temple pond. As he entered the temple pond he had a feeling to urinate. So he came out and tried to urinate outside. But urine was not coming. This repeated several times and he developed a pain in the abdomen too. Not able bear the pain he rolled over the steps of the pond and started breathing problem too. Then he remembered the curses. He prayed to god sun to help him stating that he never did anything out of the book given by sun. Suddenly a voice from the sky asked him whether it is said that the things mentioned in the books should be done. Without answering that question the great sorcerer left the earth leaving behind his mortal body.
