Deviled eggs is a simple egg dish, like most of the other egg dishes. It is prepared by dividing hard-boiled egg into two, removing the yolk, mixing it with different ingredients and again filled in egg white and seasoned with paprika. Deviled eggs are also known as eggs mimosa, Russian eggs, dressed eggs and picnic eggs. This dish belongs to Italy, however it is now made in almost every country! Each country has its own variation, the procedure is the same but deviled eggs ingredients are different. Deviled eggs can be served as an appetizer, side dish or even main course. The ingredients for deviled eggs also depend on the way it is going to be served. For example, the eggs are stuffed with salmon, bacon and ham if it is to be served as a main course dish. On the other hand, if it is to be served as an appetizer, only a few spices are added.

Ingredients for Deviled Eggs
The following are ingredients for different recipes, which belong to different countries. There is only a slight difference between the ingredients, however, even the slight difference makes a total change in the resulting recipe, you can see it for yourself!

Classic Deviled Eggs Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 dozen eggs
  • ¼ tsp Tabasco
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp minced onion or shallot
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Paprika
  • Salt and pepper
Process

Firstly hard boil the eggs. Take a large saucepan, fill half of it with water, add the eggs, pour water until the eggs are covered with at least an 1 inch of water. Add 1 tbs vinegar to the water along with a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let cool for about 12-15 minutes. Discard the hot water, run cool water over the eggs, let them sit in the cool water for a couple of minutes. Peel the eggs and then cut each of them into half. Place all the egg yolks in a mixing bowl. Put the egg whites on serving plates. Mash the egg yolks with the help of a fork, add mayonnaise, mustard, Tabasco and onion. Mix well, season with salt and pepper. Spoon this mixture again in the egg whites. Season with paprika.

Russian Eggs Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 12 hard-boiled eggs
  • ¼ cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • ½ tsp freshly grated lemon zest
  • ½ cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Caviar for garnish
Process

Cut the hard-boiled eggs into halves. Scoop out the yolks, place them in a small bowl, set aside the egg whites. Mash the egg yolks, add in sour cream, breadcrumbs and lemon zest. Add salt and pepper as per taste, mix well. Spoon the mixture into egg whites, garnish with a dollop of caviar. Serve immediately.

Southwestern Deviled Eggs Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 6 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1 tbs chopped green onion, plus more for garnish, optional
  • 3 tbs shredded Cheddar
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbs salsa
  • 1½ tbs sour cream
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Process

Lengthwise, halve the eggs. Like the previous recipes, place the yolks in a small bowl. Mash the yolks, add cheddar, salsa, green onion, cumin and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, mix well. Spoon the egg whites evenly with yolk mixture. Garnish with green onions. You can store these eggs in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

As you must have observed, strong flavored ingredients are not a part of any deviled eggs recipes. So, if you wish to personalize the recipe, by adding any additional deviled eggs ingredient, add only mild flavored ones, so that the taste of eggs is not suppressed.
