How to Detangle Matted Hair
- First try to find out why your hair has got tangled or matted. Not cleaning properly after regular intervals can make hair tangled and hair which is naturally falling out will remain stuck. If your hair is not healthy the problem worsens as there is a lot of friction between the hair as you try to comb it. For the different causes of tangling of hair we have to choose different approaches to detangling it.
- One great and natural way of detangling is to use a lubricant so that it becomes smooth and slides against each other without friction. If your hair has got tangled because of excessive dryness, this is a very good method of untangling it. To use this method take some coconut, olive or any other hair oil and heat it for several minutes. Now apply the warm oil to the tangles and the scalp. They may not untangle right away and you may have to keep them oiled for several hours, after which you can wash them and again apply a small amount of oil to smoothen them.
- Another method of untangling matted curly hair is using a good conditioner. After washing your hair with your usual shampoo dry it with a towel (do not use a dryer) and apply a good conditioner and keep it on for some time. This will surely untangle most types of hair.
- There are detangling products available in the market, but most of them contain harsh chemicals. So use them only if it is the last option available and any of the home remedies are not working.
- You can also go to a professional hair stylist and get his/her help with detangling your matted hair. But do not go for such treatments too often as they will only damage your hair in the long run.
- If none of the above works you should see a good tricologist, as it may be some kind of hair disorder and will need proper medical help.
