Chapter One
"My Part of Town"

It's summer time here in South Philly, and everybody and they mamas are outside in our section 8 projects. We got Mr. Brown next door frying up fish and chicken, Ms. Tracy making homemade lemonade, and the local crack heads and dealers at the end of each corner of Columbus Boulevard. I sat on my front porch and watched the younger girls play hopscotch on the sidewalk and the boys at the neighborhood courts play basketball while the neighborhood scalawags try to get their attention. It was getting pretty boring so I decided to go check on my best friend Sa'Trea and my god daughter, Nychelle. I got up off the step and walk the block to get to Tree's House. I got there 15 minutes later, and knocked on the door.

Her brother Devante open the door "hey lil Ms. Destanee" "hey Tae. Is Tree and chelle'E here?" "Tree is upstair in her room but Nychelle is over at our aunts house for this week" "ok. thanks" I ran upstairs and walked in her room. "Hey Tree" "Hey Dess" "so what's up" "nothing really trying to get this boy to pay child support" she is talking about Tremaine, her and Tre been going together on and off for the past three years, but a year ago when she told him she was pregnant with his baby he said she was a slut and it could be anybodies baby, and that was the end of it. "Oh. You know that girl Asia" "I heard that she and Tarijah got into a fight over Daishawn" "for real who won?" "Everybody say that Asia kicked Tarijah's ass "she started laughing" girl do you want to head down to the courts because I'm tired of jus hearing about the drama I want to have front row seats, you feel me?" "Okay come on" she grabbed her knockoff Gucci bag and we headed for the door.

Devante noticed that we were leaving and asked "where y'all going?" I replied like a little girl "to the courts" I've had a crush on Devante since the first time I met Tree in the 7th grade five years ago and he was in the 9th grade. We tried the girlfriend boyfriend thing but it didn't work out, but I do still have feelings for him. Sa'Trea was getting annoyed with us just standing there so she said "ummphm bye" I waved bye, I'm not shy it's just when I'm around him I get butterflies in my throat to where I can't talk. He grabbed me by my arm and said "so I don't get a goodbye kiss?" he put a slick grin on his face, and I gave in. I gave him a peck on the lips and when he was really getting into it, I pulled away. My grandma always said you got to keep these young boys coming back for more." Why you stop" I laughed while going toward the door "because I don't just give all my good stuff to just any old regular boy" Sa'Trea burst out laughing and we closed the door behind us.

We walked to the courts and as soon as we got there we could tell some drama was about to pop off. We looked around to see if we could spot the drama, we began to walk toward it. We saw girl name Shadai was yelling at somebody but I couldn't make out whom. We got a little closer and I knew the person she was yelling at It was my twin sister, Fate. I told Sa'Trea" Oh hell naw. I don't know why she all up in TeTe face but it ain't gone go down like that" Fate and I were born on july18 and we are born 2 minutes apart she name me Destanee and named her Fate because it means the same thing. We are nothing alike I am naughty but nice she is just straight up naughty, but even though we have nothing in common we have each other's back when we need to and right now is one of them moments.

I walked up to Shadai and said "why the hell are you all up in my sister face like you stupid?" "Well you need to tell your hoe of a sister to leave my man alone" oh she messed up now don't nobody disrespect us like that, I'm guessing Tree knew what was about to go done because she tried to calm me and my sister down. I yelled "before you call somebody a whore you need to keep her name and any other girl name out your mouth cause it is not dick" the crowd burst out laughing. she was embarrassed and I'm guessing she had to regain her self-esteem but she didn't choose her choice of words very carefully" both of y'all are a bunch of bitches" I snapped and after that I guess being twins we have a instinct because we both punched her ass out, and the crowd was cheering us on. It was like we tagged teamed her ass, but when it was my turn again I felt someone pull me off her and I got mad because I wasn't finish letting all of my energy out.

I looked up to see who pulled me off her and it was Devante. Yeah he was supposed to be my night and shining honor but not now." why'd you stop me I wasn't finish with her" "it's okay. You proved to everybody that she didn't win that one" "Ugh" I sighed. "Why do you always have to prove yourself to everyone?" I looked down at my feet and he lifted my head up with his hand "answer me" I thought about his question. Now that I think about it why do I? "I don't know I guess that's just how I am" "well you need to work on it. Because yeah you live in the hood and yeah at them schools they don't teach you much but you could still apply yourself" we began to walk toward my house." why do you even care I know that you aren't a goody too shoe and I even know you've been in criminal trouble before so why are you so concern about me" "that's just it I don't want you to end up like me with all that on your record.

I care about you a lot and I just want you to work on it" "ok...you know for just a regular old guy you can give good advice when you want to" I smiled and we reached my house. He moved in closer to me "like I told you before I'm not a regular guy "and with that he kissed me hard and forcefully and I liked that. Don't get me wrong I like a guy that is gentle but sometimes I like to be roughed up a little. When we ended the kiss I looked into his eyes and they were beautiful. I fixed up myself then said" well tell Tree ill call her later tonight" "okay" I get ready to turn the knob on my door but he stopped me and said "see here you acting crazy again I don't get goodbye kiss "I smiled" one kiss is enough for one day" I walked inside the house right when my mom was about to leave to go on her date and I had to watch over my two younger brothers Justin,10, and Vincent, 8, and my younger sister Amiracle,4." Dess I'm about to leave make sure you keep an eye on your brothers and sister" my mom yelled up the steps" okay ma ill see you when you get back...love you...yea ...bye" like thirty minutes after my mom left it was like 9:30 and Amiracle was asleep. I told the boys to stay in their room and play the game but don't be running around the house. It was around 11:00 when they finally fell asleep.

I grabbed the cordless phone and took it in my room to call Sa'Trea; she picked up on the third ring."Hey Dess" "hey Tree" "so are you ready to start school next Monday we will be officially 12th graders. We have exactly 7 days before summer break is over" "I know this break went by fast. But I'm kind of excited to go back to see all our friends and even our haters" "me to" we laughed "yea" I continued "so how is chelle'E doing I haven't seen her in two weeks" "oh she has been spending time with all my aunts and uncles." "oh well then tell them to give her a kiss on the forehead for me" "ok I will" "so what are your plans for tomorrow" "I'll probably go swimming for the last time up at the recreational center over there on Walnut Avenue" "cool I'll probably join you" "well I guess I will talk to you tomorrow" "night Tree.ILY" "night Dess.ILY" we said goodbye in unison and I hung up the phone went and took a quick hot shower put on my night clothes and got into the bed. I was thinking about how my day went and I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
