Desire - Chapter 13

Xion

"What the hell is wrong with you?! Do you know you could have killed her?"

I angrily picked myself up off of the floor where I had slid down and shook myself. Who was this person who had so rudely interrupted my snack? What right did he have to come into my house and tell me what to do? Not to mention throw me around like a stuffed animal? I felt my canines lengthen and licked my lips in hunger. My throat was burning with thirst; I just wanted something to drink so bad that I couldn't take it anymore. I opened my eyes to look around the room and noticed that there was nothing but blood bags in front of me. Hot flesh covered blood bags just waiting to be drained dry by my fangs.

I groaned and licked my lips, slowly starting to advance on the first piece of meat that was in front of me. This one smelled of anger, lust, and... fear... my favorite kind of prey...

"Oh no... He's given into the thirst!" One girl stammered out as she backed away slowly out of the room only to bump into girl who was standing stock-still in the doorway with a calm expression on her face.

"Marauder, you have to do something!" Another girl yelled, trying to inch toward me but I bared my fangs at her and she whimpered and ran to the other girl who tried to leave. Such pitiful prey... I would devour them next after I finished with this one. I trained my gaze back to the one that still stood in front of me. This one didn't seem as afraid as the others but I would quickly fix that problem.

"Xion, snap out of it man! Don't let the thirst take control of you."

I cocked my head to the side and raised one eyebrow. "Who is this Xion you speak of little sheep? Your wife? Your son? Well, it doesn't matter because I'll kill them next right after I kill you!" I watched his face twist into a mask of horror before launching myself at him.

As soon as I got close enough to wrap my hands around his throat, I felt a sharp stinging hit near my ribs and suddenly I felt myself fall straight to the ground. My body started shaking and instantly I felt my body start to grow warmer. The two girls that had run away from me slowly started to inch closer. I saw one of them holding a silver gun in their hand and recognized that they must have been the ones that had hurt me. I growled at them but it didn't seem to faze them. With each step they took toward me, I felt my hunger grow stronger and stronger. I wanted them so bad that it hurt just to breathe...

"Xion, just hold still okay? Temptress only shot you with a heating bullet. It increases your body's temperature so that you instantly become weak and unable to heal as fast as you could before. Soon it will kill you if I don't get it out of you. Will you allow me to?" I watched the short girl with weary eyes and noticed the pulse at the base of her neck jump in reaction to my gaze.

"Such a lovely vein... will you allow me to take a sip little lamb?" I murmured. She started to inch away from me, covering up her neck with her hands but the one that was holding the gun pushed her forward with the palm of her hand on her back. "Go on Jade. He won't hurt you. He's nothing but a dying corpse now." The girl called, Jade glanced at the other girl, nodded, and then turned back to me. As soon as she got close enough for me to reach her, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her down on top of me.

"No! Let me go!" She yelled. I laughed at her attempts to free herself from my grasp and felt another bullet enter my shoulder. The heat from the entry and the increase in the heat from the bullet in my side made me cry out in pain but not enough to let go of the easy prey that lay fighting in my arms. I buried my face in her throat, smelling her scent that only came from her blood.

I groaned and she whimpered. "Such a delicious delicacy...don't worry little one. You'll die in peace." I licked her neck and right before sinking my fangs into her neck I heard someone shout out what was supposed to be my name.

"Xion! Don't do it! Please!"

I felt my arms release my struggling captive and I watched as my prey launched herself across the room into the other girl with the silver gun's arms. I slowly turned my gaze toward the right where the most beautiful, tempting creature I had ever seen sat on the floor right in front of me. Her neck was already bleeding and I couldn't stop myself from licking my lips at the sight of the blood running down into her generous cleavage.

"Xion, come here. Come taste me..." I watched in fascination as she grabbed a sharp knife that lay on the floor and raised it to her neck.

"Mariah, no! Don't!" My first prey called out. "Shut up Kaige and let me do this. Please..." She said softly. She took a couple of deep breaths and cut a deep gash in her throat. Her blood started to flow faster as it began to drip to the floor.

"Mine... all mine..." I murmured as I struggled to make my way over to her. Every inch that I moved toward her, I could feel my lust and need grow stronger for her. The person named Kaige tried to reach out and touch her but I hissed at him and he retracted back a few steps. As soon as I reached her, I grabbed her in my arms and pressed my mouth against her neck. Her blood smelled ten times better than the other girl's and that's when I realized that this was the only blood I would ever want.

"Xion, please... hurry..." I heard her murmur. I tilted her head back in my hand and attached my mouth to her neck. Suddenly every sensation, every feeling, felt like it hit me at once: sadness, pain, happiness, joy, love... I clutched onto her for dear life and kept sucking, never wanting to let go of this feeling, never wanting to lose her. After what felt like only minutes, I felt someone grasp my upper arms and pull me away from her. I struggled to continue to clutch onto her, not wanting this moment of ecstasy to end but then suddenly I heard someone say, "Xion, you've killed her."

At that moment, everything returned to me in a flash: Mariah, what I had been doing, and why everyone was in the room. I allowed myself to be helped up by Kaige and lead toward a chair. He helped me sit down and Temptress silently came over with her First Aid tools to remove the bullets that she had shot me with. Once she was done I sat there stunned at how I had allowed myself to become so out of control when my brain registered what Kaige had said: I had killed Mariah.

"NO!!"

When I came to, it was to a horrible pulsing pain in the side of my neck. I slowly touched the place where I had cut myself and grimaced. It hurt even when I hardly put any pressure on it. When I had cut myself with the knife, I had felt nothing at all but the warmness of my blood seeping down my throat. I touched the bandage that covered the wound again and slowly sat up. Somehow I had ended up in the same room I had been put in the first time I came to the mansion.

I slowly got out of bed and stood up only to fall back down again. I pressed my hands to my head as dizziness overtook me. This was ten times as worse than that hangover I had gotten from my friend Jasmine's bachelorette party and I was pretty drunk that night. I tried to stand back up again only to sink to the floor on my knees.

"Mariah, we're-Mariah! What happened?!"

I opened my eyes to find Jade kneeling down in front of me with a worried expression on her face and Temptress standing in the doorway with her arms crossed and a frown on her face. I tried to smile and tell her I was alright but my throat felt like raw sawdust had been rubbed in it. I pointed to my throat and she nodded. "Okay. I'll get you some water. Can you just sit right here for a second?" I nodded and she ran out of the room leaving me with Temptress.

"How idiotic do you have to be to cut yourself and allow Xion to feed on you when he has the Thirst?" I narrowed my eyes angrily at Temptress. "I just wanted to help." She dry laughed and started studying her fingernails.

"Are you kidding me? You? Help? Ha! You're a human Mariah. All you are is food for us when we need you. And guess what? That's all you are to Xion. Food!"

"No I'm not! I refuse to believe that. Xion loves-" I stopped myself before I allowed myself to say what I was about to say. What in the world almost made me say that Xion loves me? How did I know for sure that what Temptress was saying wasn't true? How did I know that Xion wasn't just using me for food? She smirked as she realized that I had stopped and thought about what she actually said. She slowly came over to me and knelt down so that her eyes captured my own.

"You think he loves you Mariah? You think you are special to him? You think that every night before he goes out for a hunt, he stops and thinks about how you feel? Well guess what? You aren't! You mean nothing! I've seen into your future Mariah. And guess what? You die. You die a horrible, painful, bloody death all alone. No one comes to help you, no one comes to be with you when you die... I feel sorry for you. You'll never know what true love really is."

"Temptress! Get out!" I blinked my watery eyes and saw Jade in the doorway holding a cup filled with bubbly water. I felt tears roll down my cheeks as Temptress strutted out of the room laughing a cocky laugh. Jade shut the door with a loud slam and came over to me. Once she sat the cup of sparkling water down on the bedside table, she wrapped me in her arms and allowed me to cry on her shoulder.

With everything that had happened, I guess I had forgotten that I was still human. Everything that had happened in the past month came down on me and every feeling that I had of anger, sadness, or happiness came out in the tears I cried. Jade held me softly while stroking my hair and murmuring soft words in my hair. After I had cried what felt like one million tears, she handed me a tissue and I wiped my tears.

"I'm sorry Mariah. Temptress... I don't know... sometimes I feel like she has gone through a lot of stuff in her past and maybe it influences how she views guys. Also." She droned off and started fidgeting with the box of tissues in her lap. I narrowed my eyes and poked her with my finger. "Also what?"

She set the box of tissues on the floor and took both of my hands in hers. "Listen Mariah. I hope this doesn't cause any problems between you and Xion but him and Temptress... well, in the past, well, WAY in the past, they were once married." I felt my jaw drop to the floor as I finally started putting the pieces together of why Temptress always seemed so mean to me. "They were... married?! Temptress and Xion? But she seems so-"

"Mean?" Jade stated. I nodded and Jade handed me my glass of sparkling water. She waited until I took a big gulp and continued. "She and Xion met in the 1920s' and fell madly in love. It was actually love at first site for both of them if you can believe it. They were always together and never ever left each other's side. They ended up moving in together and Temptress became pregnant with twins. Then one day, everything just changed."

I waited for her to continue speaking but she shook her head. "I'm sorry Mariah but this isn't my story to tell. If you want to know more, ask Xion or Temptress. I'm sure they will be willing to tell you. For now, you need to go back to bed. You've lost a lot of blood." She gingerly helped me up onto the bed, gave me a hug, and left the room. As soon as she left though, I cursed silently because I had meant to ask her about how Xion was.

When I had seen what happened to him when the Thirst took over, something inside of me had said that I was the only one that could save him from it. Even now I had an urgent need to go see Xion and to see if he was alright. My heart ached for him and for once, I didn't want to ignore it.

As I started to get up and head to door, the handle turned and then there stood Xion. My breath caught in my throat as he remained standing there in the doorway, staring at me with the most open expression in his now normal ruby eyes. I could tell he was worried but that he was also afraid to set foot in the room in fear of hurting me once again.

"Mariah...

"Xion..."

He started to step toward me but stopped when his eyes saw the bandage on my neck. I watched as they traced the shape of the bandage and noticed that his fist were clenching. I started to reach out to him but he stepped back out into the hallway far away from my reach.

"Xion, I..."

"All I ever seem to do is hurt you Mariah... I'm a monster! I... I succumbed to the Thirst and almost killed you today. Do you know what it felt like to know that you might have died because of me? What do you think might happen later on in the future? I could really end up killing you and if that happened, I don't think I could live with myself. So please, just let me die alone. Find someone who will love you and never hurt you like I have. Go, be with another human that needs you," he begged.

Forgetting that I had lost I-don't-know-how-much blood earlier today, I walked over to him and placed both of my hands on his face and tilted up his head so that his eyes met mine. I wanted him to know just what I felt at that moment; I wanted him to be able to understand what I was about to tell him and for him to see that what I was about to say was really what lay in my heart.

"I don't want another human Xion. I can't see myself with a human at all actually." I felt a laugh escape my throat and I watched his eyes swirl with confusion. "I don't understand. Do you like someone other than a human then?"

I couldn't help but to laugh at what he had just said. "Xion, who else on this planet have I met that isn't human that I seem remotely interested in?" I saw his eyes flicker with an unknown emotion and then I could have sworn I heard him say, "Oh there is one dog," but I shook it off as I pulled his attention back to me. "When I said I didn't want another human, I was going to say that the reason was because I can never feel this way about anyone else but you."

He blinked his thickly lashed eyes at me. "I'm still not sure-"

"Xion! She's saying she's in love with you dude! Gosh! How dense can you get man? Isn't it obvious? I mean even I-" Suddenly Kaige's voice became muffled by someone's hand and then we heard a "Eww!!! Kaige licked me!"

Xion slowly took both of my hands in his and stared deep into my eyes. "Is that true? Do you really love me Mariah?" I didn't even have to think about the answer as I replied back, "Yes I do truly love you Xion." His delectable lips broke out in the cutest smile I ever saw as he started to pull me closer for a kiss but right before our lips met I slowly pulled away from his hands.

"I have come to love you Xion. I have no clue how or why but I have and it scares me. I've never ever fallen so fast and so deeply for anyone before. You have got to understand that as much as I want to rush full force into this and not look back, I just can't seem to let go of my normal life." I hated even saying the words that were coming out of my mouth to him but they just kept coming. "I want to just give myself completely and utterly to you but-"

Xion cut me off by planting a kiss softly on my lips. That definitely stopped the words that hadn't seemed to stop leaking out of my mouth. He gently pulled me into his arms and rested his forehead against mine. "I will make you fall so helplessly, utterly, and completely in love with me that you won't have any regrets about anything when I want to make you mine. We'll go slow on your terms for now my little angel but later when I have swooned you until you have lost all room to breathe, when I ask you to be mine forever, your only answer will be yes."

"Yes," I murmured as his lips connected with mine in a sweet kiss that seemed to last for eternity...
