Design your Own Outfit
Wondering if you can design your own outfit? It is easy. A few things to remember and follow and your own outfit design is ready. Are you eager to design your own outfit, here's how you can.
Tips to Design your Own Outfit
Sketch: A pencil and paper can give you a lot of space to explore your creativity. You don't need to be a great artist for drawing a sketch. It is just for your understanding. You can try putting your ideas on the paper. Try an entire outfit or go part by part. Like you can first go for designing the top and then the bottom part. This will allow you to try all possible combinations within the outfit.
Fabric: Decide the fabric of your outfit. This is the most important part while you design your own outfit. A simple dress can look awesome only because of the fabric used and a very trendy and designer clothing can destroy your appearance just because of the wrong fabric. Choose the fabric according to the type of outfit. Choose the one which suits your body type the best. You can also come out of the usual way of using the same fabric for the entire dress by using two different types of fabrics. Like cotton for bodice and a synthetic fabric for the skirt.
Colors: Colors have equal importance as the fabrics while you design your own outfit. They can ruin your look if not chosen rightly. Colors need to suit your complexion well. You can always opt for some new shades than the regular ones. Also, take extra care while you are using two different fabrics. Same color shade can look strikingly different in different fabrics. A single colored outfit can also look wonderful. Avoid using more than two colors. Think twice about the combination and contrast before you choose the two colors.
Lining: Check whether the fabric will need lining. Accordingly, have one to match the color of the clothing. Check the lining fabric, it must be of a good quality, but not very thick. Also it's best that you wash it before using.
Embellishment: This is the fun part of designing your outfit. You can add decorative buttons, ribbons, beads, laces, etc. to your outfit. Try this on a paper, use a different sketch for each item. Don't use too many types or excess of embellishments. They won't look good. Remember, even if you use them to enhance the look of your outfit, you have to see where they'll look the best and are they actually making any difference after being added to the outfit. Like, if a neck line is looking good without the cute lace, then it's better to skip the lace. Instead, you may add this lace at the bottom line of your outfit if the lower part of the dress is looking dull or may be to the sleeves!
Detailing: After you have decide the fabric, color and the sketch is ready, it's time for detailing. If you are using two types of fabrics or two different colors, decide which one to use for which part. Now look which part will look great after adding embellishments to it. Make sure the embellishments are color coordinated with your fabric. Think again if you wish to change the outfit design, like the neck, sleeves' length, total height, size of pleats(if any), etc.
Once you plan the above things, it's time to stitch the dress. If you know stitching, that's great. You can implement all your design ideas to have the perfect outfit according to your design. But, if you are not stitching the outfit you need to take some extra efforts to explain the design to the tailor. You can learn stitching using books or websites providing the detailed steps for this. Also, browsing through some fashion magazines and web pages will give you great ideas to design your own outfit. This way you can also know the latest fashion trends in the women's clothing instead of designing one which is a passé. Put in all your creativity and imagination to have a great looking outfit with the satisfaction of having designed it yourself.
