Non-Chemical Skin Treatment Solution

Dermabrasion is a cosmetic surgery procedure that offers a non-chemical solution for the treatment of acne and acne associated scarring (rhinophyma), chicken pox marks, liver spots, skin lesions, wrinkles, dark spots, and melasma. It also emerges as a better option than chemical peeling for people with darker skin.

A Safe Procedure

Dermabrasion is a safe procedure, in which a high-speed rotary instrument with a brush or abrasive wheel is used to surgically scrape (abrade) the skin’s outer layers. The surgeon continues the scraping till he gets to the safest point which would make:

-The condition less noticeable
-Enable the skin to grow again in the regular way

Post-Surgery Healing

As the treated area starts healing, a crust or scab is formed over it. Ultimately, the scabs fall off and fresh skin that’s often smoother than the original appears. Swelling and discoloration as a consequence of the procedure could last for some months. The growth of new skin may cause itching and/or irritation but the discomfort can be lessened through the application of ointment or cream. The patient can return to his normal activities within around two weeks. However, he/she may be advised by the doctor to avoid excessive and unnecessary sun exposure for a period of 3 to 6 months.

Dermabrasion also Effective in Cases of Deep Scarring

The dermabrasion procedure may be done more than a single time in cases of deep scarring. Though most frequently used on the face, it may also be done to treat other skin regions. Photographs may be taken of the patient before and after the treatment to see the change. This treatment is not suitable for certain pigmented birthmarks and moles, and skin defects present at birth.
