Depp to Star in Pirates 4
'Captain Jack Sparrow' struck a deal for starring in the 4th part of the famous 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series, making him the highest paid actor in Hollywood....

The movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is scheduled for release in the summer of 2011. Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow, but unfortunately, co-stars Orlando Bloom [Will Turner] and Keira Knightley[Elizabeth Swann] will not be part of 'Stranger Tides'. This could be one of the reason why Depp was offered such an astronomical sum.
Depp was also recently voted as the 'Sexiest Man Alive', confirming his popularity and perhaps justifying his huge salary. Studio bosses at Disney, however, think they got the better end of the deal, claiming that Depp wanted a part of the profits as well. "These may seem like astronomical figures but studios can no longer afford such budget-busting agreements", executives at the studio were rumored as saying. The first three parts of the series have enjoyed success in all parts of the world, raking in more than 2.5 billion dollars worldwide. "He [Depp] commands huge leverage, however, because without him the franchise would be dead and buried."
Though huge, this salary is nowhere compared to what he would have earned had he got a share of the profits as well. A prime example in this case is 'Matrix' star Keanu Reeves, who despite getting a low upfront fee [20 million], earned a huge deal from the 'Matrix Trilogy'. For just the first and second parts, Reeves earned a reported 194 million dollars, with a huge chunk of that coming in profits. For Depp, if the fourth part of the Pirates of the Caribbean series turns out to be as successful as the first three, then maybe he will indeed get the bitter end of the deal.
However that may turn out to be, with a 50 million dollar fee and the sexiest man alive tag, this 'pirate' is sure going places.
