Decorating Ideas for Window Boxes in the Fall
Fall is upon us and coming up with ways to decorate your window boxes can be one of my favorite activities I look forward to every year. In this article I've put together my top 5 Fall window box ideas of all time that you can use to enjoy your window boxes throught the cooling autumn holiday season.

Create a Fall holiday display. Halloween and Thanksgiving are central to the Fall season and it's only natural to incorporate your window boxes into the usual house decorating that accompanies the upcoming holidays. Decorating with pumpkins, squash, corn stalks, and fall flower displays you can create a startling display.

Create a magnificent hanging vine display. When I think window boxes and plants, I almost always have to think vines, vines, vines. No window box is complete without the use of hanging vines flowing out of the window box. My favorite combination is to use sweet potato vines mixed and matched with a few colors and green leafy plants. Sweet potato vine thrives in the late summer and into the Fall season. I've found that hanging vines work best when the window boxes are on a second floor or the house lacks color underneath. The vines help draw attention away from other areas.

Bright flowers. My two favorites to use in the Fall are Geraniums and Petunias. This works great when the house is a neutral color. This really lets the flowers display at their fullest. Whenever I'm in a happy mood, I love to mix in beautiful, bright flower displays with my window boxes.

A broccoli garden. Broccoli is one of the easiest vegetables to grow in the Fall and they work perfectly for window boxes. They're easy to water and maintain right from your window and you can harvest the broccoli in less time than many other vegetables.

A tomato sanctuary. Red tomatoes bring Fall colors to the home and naturally blend in with the surrounding landscaping. Tomatoes are another hardy vegetable that can easily be grown from a window box container. They're easy to harvest and will do well with proper attention in the Fall.

No matter what the season: fall, winter, spring, or summer, there are lots of ways to decorate your window boxes. Hopefully, these ideas will inspire you to come up with a few of your own!
