Decorating Ideas for Master Bedroom

Master bedrooms are the biggest bedrooms in one's house. They are usually occupied by the head of the household. While decorating your home, don't overlook the master bedroom. Here are some great ideas for decorating it.
Decorating Ideas for Master Bedroom
Master bedrooms have enough space for a standard bed, wardrobe, dresser, a closet vanity and a chaise for taking a nap or reading a book. Usually, the master bedroom is like an oasis for the master of the house. Therefore, one should take extra care in decorating it. Before decorating the master bedroom, take the following points into consideration.
  • The number of people using the master bedroom; this will decide the number of closets in the room.
  • What will be the main purpose of the room? Is it only used for sleeping or for other activities as well?
  • Do you primarily want to use it as your personal retreat?
After answering the above questions, you will get a clear idea of the style you need to choose for your bedroom. The master bedroom decor should represent you. It should offer you a feeling of comfort, rest and relaxation. Here are some ideas for decorating your master bedroom.
  • It is best to have hard furnishing in the bedroom, like wardrobes and dressing tables built in. Avoid clutter in the bedroom, because it will give your bedroom a congested look even if it is large.
  • Don't fuse your bed into the background; instead make it a focal point. It is best not to have strip lighting, shelves and wooden headboards for your bed, as they tend to make your bed look wider.
  • Accentuate a large window by placing your bed against it; add long draping curtains for privacy.
  • For a simple but sophisticated look, top your bed with canopy and style your room in white or beige.
  • A simple and inexpensive way of adding style to your bed, is to use a simple throw-over cover. A stylish lamp can also work wonders.
  • If your room is small, add your desk to your bed to save space and beautify it with flowers or candles. A wardrobe with a mirrored door is a good idea, since it doesn't take up extra space and in addition, you will have a full-length mirror. It will not only be decorative but it will also make the room appear bigger.
  • Houseplants freshen up the room; small or artificial plants are a good choice. The best place for keeping the plant is your dressing table, reading table or you could place it near the bed.
  • Lighting plays an important role. Try adding a fun decorative light fixture. If you want, you can create different shadow patterns. Light which penetrates through the window can be interrupted to create an interesting one.
  • Spot lights can be used for enhancing different areas of the master bedroom, like the dressing table or study area. A wide variety of spotlights are available in the market; buy something that goes well with your room.
  • If your room has little or no sunlight, colors like red, orange, pink and warm yellow look good. If your room overheats, then colors like blue and green will give it a cooling effect.
  • Painting plays an important part in deciding the look of the room. For a modern look, keep the furniture minimal and use different shades of grey. For a posh look, use golden tones.
  • Try decorating the room in black and brown for a sensual look. Use a lovely shade of purple to give it that chic look. If you want a simple but elegant look for your room, use stripes on walls and the bed cover.
  • If you have a simple black and white room, use a velvet headboard and a carpet with the same hue to add that dash of style. A patterned bedspread or fur bedding will also look good.
  • If you love some color but are afraid to use it in the entire room, add a punch of that color in the tufted headboard and pillows.
  • Avoid large paintings; instead use two or three small ones. A wall hanging matching with your room style, will also look good
  • If you have a large ceiling, add faux wooden beam and keep the curtains and covers simple.
  • It is a good idea to have a cozy little corner in the room, where you can retreat. Decorate it with your family photographs.
You don't need an interior designing expert or expensive furniture to add style to your master bedroom. You, yourself can do it; just think out of the box!
