Deciding on a Retractable Patio Awning

A retractable patio awning can extend and retract whenever you need protection for your patio.
Patios are the places for relaxation, meditation, and family picnics. It is also the place that people will retreat to when they want to spend quality time with loved ones or simply have a conversation with a neighbor. But the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. The sun could become overbearing or it could begin to rain, leaving you and your guests all wet.

Why you want one

The retractable patio awning is something that you never have to worry about taking down. You can leave it attached to the house all year round and extend it out only when you want to use it. Just think of all of the heat you avoid when you relax under the awning. Typically, it is about twenty degrees cooler under the patio awning than it is throughout the rest of your yard. This means that you are protected from all of the damaging sunrays and your cookout no longer has to be at risk for becoming soaked from a sudden down pour.

Different types

There are two main types of retractable awnings. There are the electrical ones and then there are the manual ones. The manual ones have a handle that is used to pull the awning in and out. The electrical awnings are powered by a motor.

Their advantages and disadvantages

With the manual awnings, you will not have to worry about an electrical motor breaking, as you would have to with an electrical awning. The down side of the manual awning is that you have to spend time and energy pulling it out and retracting it back when you could be using that time and energy for other things.

How to choose one

While there is the fun part of selecting the awning that has all of the bells and whistles you want, it is important to make sure that you are selecting one that will give you the cover you really need. If the awning is not going to properly cover the area, than it is not worth purchasing. You will need to make sure that you have all of your measurements handy so that you are selecting the right awning for your patio.

How much are they

The size and the brand of the patio awning you end up with is going to be the main determining factor in the cost of it all. If you are able to install the awning yourself you will save yourself a good bit of money. Typically, you are looking at six to eight hundred dollars for your standard sized retractable awning. Even though it is retractable, it will thankfully not cost all that much than any other kind of awning.

Where to buy

There might be a few places near you that sell retractable patio awnings but they may not have exactly what you are looking for or they may be over priced. To make sure that you are getting the best deal possible, you want to make sure that you are looking online to see what other options are out there for you. By taking a little time out of your day to comparison shop you will be able to know for sure that you are making the right decision with your purchase.
