Deception - Chapter 3 and 4
Anora wakes to find herself in someone's home. She decides to secretly listen in to what people are saying around her. What she discovers, changes her point of view about herself completely.
Chapter 3
My feet ached and throbbed. Each step felt like the sharpest knife was being pushed deeper and deeper into my flesh. I knew without even looking at my foot, the cut would be infected. I needed to find someone soon, or else I would loose my foot.
I had been walking all night it seemed. The distant horizon showed a thin line of the rising sun's rays. I had been walking all night. I was exhausted, fatigued and in serious pain. There had been no sign, sound, or trace of the armored man. He had simply vanished.
I knew I was doomed. I knew I was probably gonna die. I was dehydrated and hungry. My legs gave out and I fell flat on my face. A chill ran down my spine as the cold mud hit my cheeks. My foot no longer stepping constantly in mud and dead leaves, tingled with pain. My eyes fluttered open and shut, was this what it was like to be on the brink of dying? My mouth dried up, deprived of all water, my saliva gone. I took a deep breath, let it out, and slowly closed my eyes.
Chapter 4
I heard whispering. They were gentle whispers that seemed to float around my head like clouds. I tried to speak but it came out as a moan. A small pain came from my foot as I willed myself awake. I wasn't alone anymore, I wasn't on the forest floor, I was in a soft bed. The whispers suddenly stopped. I decided to play the possum card, I would listen into what they were saying, before I truly wakened.
I nuzzled the pillow and sighed. Ready to listen. Ready to run.
"She's the one that ran?" One woman said. I could tell she was young, maybe her mid twenty's.
"Anora. She's the one that got out. How she did it, I don't know." A man said.
"Poor dear. I can't believe they do such things to humans! Not being able to remember her past, i doubt she even knows who she is." An old lady said. A bandage was suddenly placed on my cut foot. I tried not to wince in pain.
"I didn't know she was one of them. I just saw a beautiful girl out cold on the ground. Didn't know she was one of them monsters." The middle aged man said.
Monster? The word hit me hard like a pile of bricks. I really wasn't human.
"She is quite beautiful. Better than those other ones. Those things could scare a bear to death!" The old lady said. The bandage was tight on my foot, the pain was slowly easing.
"Is she gonna be alright?" The woman asked.
A wooden door opened and closed loudly. Someone walked in. "Why would you care if that thing was alright?" It was a boy, he was possibly about twenty. He had a southern accent.
"She is not a thing. She's a wonder man has created. My daughter and I love these creatures and that means we care about them too." The old lady said.
"They ain't no wonder, they are creatures of the darkest night made up of the darkest evils!" The boy hollered. "Why you would want to heal one and keep it in your home I have no clue, but I'm keeping an eye on this thing. If it tries to harm anyone, I'mma kill it."
"Oh Ezekiel, you have yet to look into it's eyes. This one is different from the other Kismet."
Kismet, was that what I was?
"I doubt it is different than them other monsters! How can you tell by looking into it's eyes?"
"Just look Ezekiel, you will see." The old lady said softly.
I felt a hand on the back of my head. It grabbed my hair and lifted up my head. "What are you doing boy!" The man yelled.
"Lookin at this beast's eyes!"
"I meant when she wakes!" The old lady hollered.
"Well when she gonna do that?" Ezekiel said letting go of my head. My head thumped onto the bed and I moaned in pain. I'm gonna have to thank him for giving me a headache later.
"Soon if you keep hurting her like that!" The man said stepping closer to Ezekiel and I. Should I wake up now? No, to many people around.
"Oh, she sleepin, she can't feel nothin."
"Yes she can boy." The woman butted in. "She isn't out stone cold you know, didn't you just hear her?"
"So what if I did? It's a monster, it needs to be roughed up so it knows it's place."
"You need to be taught." The old lady said out of the blue.
"About what?" The boy laughed.
"Being a human."
"Bein human? I think I know pretty damn well about bein a human bein!" Ezekiel laughed.
"No. You don't. There are things like compation and values that you show signs of lacking in. You don't know these things and they are important in being an actual human being."
"He's just a 19 year old boy who gets everything he wants. He's a spoiled brat if you ask me." The man said straight forwardly.
"I am not!"
"Are so and you know it! All the ladies line up-to-date you, your father just hands you money, and your mom don't even make you do chores!" The man hollered. "When I was a kid, I had to take care of my family, not the other way round!"
"Ain't my fault your momma and daddy weren't rich and you weren't attractive." Ezekiel paused. "And you still ain't."
"Why you little," The man began to say.
"Oh Sam, you are attractive." The woman giggled.
"You are too Haley." Sam said to her.
"Oh yuck." Ezekiel groaned.
The door opened, Sam and Haley left, and I was left alone with the old lady and Ezekiel. Maybe I would wake up now, or I can wait till Ezekiel leaves.
"Thank God they're gone."
The old lady stayed silent for a minute. "Well are you gonna stay here with me or leave to go brake some more girl's hearts?"
"Imma stay here and I don't make a hobbie out of braking girls hearts Grandma Luna." Ezekiel said sitting down onto a wooden stool beside the bed.
"I say you do." Luna placed a hand on my back and began to rub. "It's time to wake darling, you need to drink."
"Your seriously not gonna do that!" Ezekiel screamed. I had no idea what he was so worried about, I was parched! "Don;t give your blood to that thing!" B-blood? Okay, time for some answers.
"Arg. W-whats going on? Where am I?" The questions spewed out of my mouth. I wanted to know, I had so many unanswered questions. I felt a chill up my spine. My hand touched my neck, bare, it wasn't there. My necklace was gone. "Where is it? Where is my necklace!"
"Right here honey." The old lady said pointing to a small wooden table next to the bed. I grabbed the necklace and quickly put it back on. I didn't know why, but I always wanted to have my necklace on. It was my only sliver of hope to finding out who I was. All I knew so far was that my name was Anora and I was a blood sucking monster.
