Deception - Chapter 10

Ezekiel and Anora have a dinner date, when it's over there is a surprising knock at the door...
Ever since Ezekiel and I's moment in the room, he has clung to me like a lost puppy. Usually a girl would love this, but after a few days it has begun to annoy me. I'm not used to having a boyfriend that shows his feelings for me everywhere we go.
Luna smirks every time she sees us. She says it was "bound to happen." How she could ever predict this astounds me. I never thought in a million years that me and Ezekiel would ever be friends, let alone boyfriend and girlfriend.

As I was helping with dinner one night, I decided to ask her. "Luna?"
"Yes my child." She said as she peeled a potato.
"How could you tell?"
"Tell what?"
I cleared my throat nervously and muttered, "About Ezekiel and I."
"Dear, I can see certain emotions in my grandson's eyes. I could see love in even my son, Ezekiel's father."

Luna and I haven't talked about her family. I quickly decided to change the subject since this new relationship with Ezekiel is still embarrassing to me. "How many children do you have?"
"Oh it's just Bruce and Haley. Bruce doesn't associate with me anymore. Haley as you saw when you first woke up is busy with her new bo. Luke can take care of himself so Haley has extra free time now."

"Who is Luke?"
"Luke is my other grandson, he's about Ezekiel's age, just one year younger."
"How come I haven't seen him around?"
"Well Ezekiel and Luke don't like each other. Luke is more how you say, lighter, than Ezekiel. Sometimes I believe they are more than mortal enemies, I believe the hatred goes soul deep."

I gently put the sculpt potatoes in the oven, "Does this have something to do with Ezekiel's necklace?" Why else would family members hate each other so much?
"Yes, when he was born, an old man gave him that necklace. Luke on the other hand, was given nothing."
"So this means," I pondered allowed.
"Ezekiel has a demon watching over him." She quickly looked at me then back to her cookbook. "Well two demons watching out for him."

My eyes widened. "T-there's a d-demon in that?" I thought about how cold it felt on my bare skin.
"Yes, although he doesn't tell me much about it, I've seen it be put to use before when he was little and close to death."
"So it comes out when he is in danger?"
"Correct."

I looked at the door, hopping Ezekiel would show up early for dinner. He had left to help his parents earlier this mourning. He promised me he would come home for dinner with Luna and I. After a few minutes, I knew he wasn't gonna show up early. I sighed and sat down at the table.
I thought about Zeke's demonic necklace. I wondered if the demon in it was like the one in me. If the demon came out, would it try to hurt me or accept me as one of its brethren? I was scared to find out. Did this demon have powers, or even a name?

Ezekiel came through the front door. Sweat was dripping off his forehead. Zeke looked like he was about to collapse from exhaustion. I hurriedly stood up and grabbed him before he could fall over. He nodded to me at an attempt to say, "I'm fine." I knew he was not all fine.
I sat him down at the table. He sighed in relief as his body hit the wooden seat. "You alright?" I couldn't help asking.

"Yes, I'm fine. I had my parents give me all the labor stuff. I told them they were free to work me to the bone. What Uncle said earlier got to me. I am kinda spoiled. I don't want you thinking I'm a spoiled brat."
"I don't think you're a brat! Or even a spoiled brat for that matter!" I screamed.
Ezekiel laughed, making him cough. "Okay, as long as you don't think that of me."
"I don't and never will, so don't work yourself so hard!"
"On the bright side, my mussels are gonna get a lot bigger." Ezekiel smirked. His eyes sparkled as I stared into them. How could a demon live in someone like him?

"C-can we talk later? Privately?" I asked shakedly. I wanted to speak to him about that necklace. It was constantly around his neck, I wanted to know if what I was pressing into when I cuddle with him was dangerous to me or not.
Ezekiel's face went from happy to confused and worried. "Oh, okay. Is something wrong?"
"Yes, er, no! It's nothing big I promise you! It's just a tiny little question, no biggy!" I could do nothing but stare at the necklace as I stumbled over my words. I looked up to Ezekiel's face. He seemed like he understood what my question was likely about.

"Alright then, you can ask after I try your delectable cooking." Ezekiel smiled.
"Honestly, Luna did all the cooking. I don't remember how to cook, if I ever could." I sat down in the wooden chair next to him. "Luna, he's here!" I yelled at Luna.
Luna came in from the living room. "I was almost done with my knitting. Why did you come so late? It's not a good thing to be late to your first date." She said giving him a cold continuing glare.

"He worked really hard so I wouldn't think he was a spoiled brat." I said plainly.
"Oh is that it? Did he know you didn't think of him that way?"
"I told him I didn't."
"Ah, I see." Luna smacked Ezekiel in the back of the head with her palm. "Don't screw this one up like all the rest!"
"Yes mam." Ezekiel and Luna stared at each other for a minute and then they both busted out laughing. I don't see how a grandmother smacking her grandson could be funny, but I joined in the laughter as well.

We all sat down at the table and dug in. The food was delicious! Luna was a really good cook. When we were all done, Luna went around the table and collected all the plates. As soon as I stood up, there was a loud knock at the door.
Luna set the plates in the sink, "I will get it." She walked over to the door. It squeaked open and Luna's eyes widened. "Luke? What are you doing here?" I looked over to see Ezekiel's eyes widen and his fists clenched.
"Mom is missing." Luke said with tear filled eyes. "I haven't seen her for three days."
